Why does each bid require a new meeting? I'd love to be a fly on the wall when these meetings take place.

What makes you think that? Just because a couple of meetings may have taken place? Ammended contracts will be going back and forth and meetings will happen to clarify any sticking points or sign on the dotted line.

This article is quoting another article from a Portuguese news outlet, but the story is behind a paywall. They say we had another bid rejected in the meeting this morning - which they attended, apparently. There's a video of Fernandes turning up to the training ground to meet the chairman and his agent allegedly.

Sporting player Bruno Fernandes is getting closer to relocating to England. On the morning of Friday, CMTV exclusively attended the Bruno Fernandes summit in Alcochete.

The CMTV found that the player 's agent met with the president of the Sporting on the onslaught of Tottenham by Bruno Fernandes. It is recalled that Sporting had already rejected two Tottenham bids, one of 45 million euros and another of about 60 million.

It's a sellers market at the moment. Really not Levy's forte. Our on field progress and being in the EPL only make that worse.

I think its less about total transfer amount and it all depends on payment structure. For Betis they want to immediately recoup money they've spent on Fekir with a big sum upfront. Sporting might be more interested in smaller initial but guranteed multiple payments. That regular income could be invaluable stability to a club like Sporting.

Same principle as why the scum went with Pepe over Zaha despite the fee being similar.

It would just be interesting to know.

The fact we have sent people out to Lisbon to get it completed as quickly as possible, i dont think for any reason this will not happen! My guess is they already have a seat for Bruno and his agent for a flight back to london!

Just reading a story from late June in which it states we were interested but backed off as we thought United were going to get him. Combine that with the latest reports that United haven't put in an offer for him and seem to have cooled off, perhaps we feel that we can go back in and keep the fee relatively low?

We probably have a limit on how much we are willing to spend on this one and probably expected United to surpass that with their interest pretty strong early on. Now they've not accelerated it we may feel we can get him for a low fee.

If they are meeting it indicates that the two clubs are close enough on price for their to be scope for negotiations. The negotiations are probably about the structure of payments (how much is paid up front and the time to pay off the balance) and the conditions applying to any add-ons (how much extra is paid if various targets are met such as us winning the Champions League or iBF winning the Ballon D’or).

It’s easy to see how getting agreement on these details can make a deal viable or not, e.g the selling club might accept a lower headline price if all the fee is paid upfront and the add-on targets look easily achievable.

I’m not ITK and have never negotiated a football transfer but I have negotiated business deals.

Also I might have missed it but is there any indication that Fernandes wants to come to us? I invisage us agreeing a fee, United matching it, and him choosing them over us.
In that case, I wouldn't really want him then. At the moment, choosing United over us would mean he'd be in it for the money mainly. Besides, he would get a starting spot in the our team anyway. I think he'd choose us

Can Fernandes also play in a deeper midfield role, or is he purely a 10? I'd thought the advantage of Lo Celso was that he could operate in both positions and therefore could co-exist with Eriksen/Fernandes.

Was thinking the same thing! I work in negotiations in the finance industry and can’t imagine how this works?!

Thursday:

“Good morning, we would like to bid £40million for Bruno”.

“No. Good bye. See you tomorrow.”

Friday:

“Good morning. Long time no see! We would like to bid £43million for Mr Fernandes.”

“No.”

“Ok....fine. Actually, we are willing to increase our offer to-“

“NOOOO!!!! Don’t you dare do that. You know the rules! Get the fuck out of my office and come back tomorrow!”

“But tomorrow is Saturday? That’s my day off....?” :(

We don’t give a shit. The rules are the rules. Ok?:finger:

The fans love him, but they think that losing him is inevitable.

Keep in mind that BF hasn't played that much in the national team. It seems that he made his way into the starting eleven recently but not in the same position that he's used to. Fernando Santos is still looking to find the best way to include João Felix, BF and Bernado Silva. If memory serves me well, last time he played at the right vertex of a diamond formation. He was competent but not very impressive. For comparison, João Felix (€120M to Atletico) had a disastrous day.

I think that in Italy he played a significant amount of time as a right midfielder. In my opinion he lacks the 1 vs 1 flair to be successful at the highest level as a right mid. At the time he lacked consistency but in Portugal his performance has been stellar: despite Sporting finishing third he was awarded the best player of the league in 2017/2018 and 2018/2019.

Where we sometimes play Eriksen then and that ruins his game too!

Thanks for posting by the way, very helpful.
