It seems Tottenham Hotspur’s meeting with Sporting in Lisbon didn’t go very well.

Record says the meeting lasted until about 17:30 (same time zone). Since the bid was less than €70m, Sporting president Frederico Varandas has rejected it.

After all the Atletico jibes about Trippier and balconies, suddenly we find ourselves dealing with dodgy Varandas.

Wonder if we'll find his viewpoint agreeable?

Or will we think he's in need of decking?

Because the same people had finished not agreeing a deal with Betis, so moved on to not agreeing a deal with these guys.
Good job if you can get it I suppose.

However Imagine they met his agent as well as club though, and always easier to gauge in face-to-face meetings than by phone what it will take to get over the line.
This was the agent obviously trying to drum up further interest in him, letting other clubs know that he is available.

I’m always a little nervy when we bring in Iberian footballers, for some reason we just always seem to get the wrong one.

But A Bola brings another version. They claim a new meeting should take place, ‘possibly on Friday’.
A Bola also says that according to their sources, an agreement should only happen at the start of next week. That means Bruno Fernandes would be able to play against Benfica on Sunday.

Expect him to do his ACL then

Sporting only paid about 9 million for him, and I don’t think there’s a sell on clause (could be wrong though), so in many ways this should be an easier deal

there is a sell on clause of 100M€. Judging from what I'm reading at the portuguese press, I don't think that Sporting will sell BF for much less than 70M€.

One of those signings I just don’t want.

Scores spectacular goals but can find very few examples of technique when moving the ball around his feet or orchestrating the teams play from deep. Lo Celso seems more gifted to me.

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer plans took a twist as the club opened negotiations over a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Manchester United have been tracking Fernandes this summer, but Spurs officials have flown out to Lisbon to try to set up a deal.
Tottenham are still interested in Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, who has been one of the club’s primary transfer targets, and had shelved interest in Fernandes to pursue the Argentine.

But having so far failed to agree a fee for Lo Celso, who Betis value at £68million, Spurs are now making serious enquiries over Fernandes as they look to strengthen manager Mauricio Pochettino’s squad ahead of the closure of the transfer window next Thursday.

Tottenham hope to be able to land either Fernandes or Lo Celso for around £55m, although Sporting have previously quoted a fee as high as £70m for Fernandes.

And there remains the possibility that United will spring into action and lodge their own bid for Fernandes now that Tottenham have sent their own delegation to Portugal.

Tottenham have so far only added Tanguay Ndombele to their squad this summer, having loaned Jack Clarke immediately back to Leeds United, and Pochettino’s frustration over the club’s slow progress has been evident in recent weeks.

I don't think the exchange rate matters by the way we will have plenty of euros already or a line of credit based in the euro zone.
Quite honestly I'd have been astonished if we had turned up today and signed this deal, never saw a deal happen like that when I was making them and I closed a few in my time.

I've never watched Fernandes play for Sporting. He was hugely productive in the Portuguese league. Very little top flight appearances. A handful with the national team and handful against mid-level Europa competition like Villareal. That's a stark contrast with TDN, who had proven himself at the highest level. Having not seen enough of him beyond arbitrary highlight videos, it's hard to talk about his potential/ceiling and whether he could reach the heights that Eriksen has attained. But his floor could be much, much lower than 55-60 million pounds. And that's what would worry me about him at this point.

Just a reminder that Sky also thought that Lo Celso was only going to be signed if Eriksen left.

It’s pure guesswork, not actual info.

Obviously. But if you see 10 minutes of his supposed 'best' stuff and he looks nowhere near as gifted as Lo Celso or Eriksen based on their 10 minutes that has some validity right?

He looks more like Paulinho to me and if that’s not a reason to be against something I don’t know what is.
