I am warming to the idea we get Lo Celso and Fernandes so if Eriksen stays great but if he goes we are covered. I do think we need more quality options. Sessegnon might well have to wait until January or else we just move on. Fulham seem to be like Palace as far as transfer fees are concerned.

I wonder if the Fulham owner is cheesed off at us because of our NFL linkup when he of course has ambitions to bring his team over here?

Thought the same, wanted to Wembley didn't he and was bragging it would be the only NFL in town and got denied.

I think you should cool on the idea of getting both or either at this point. We’re making it known that its one or the other and dependent on Eriksen

His stats are mad I have to keep reminding myself it's in a lesser league but they're incredible, hope this one happens seems United no longer interested

I wouldn’t rule out another united link coming up soon. They need to get clicks somehow.

No news on RTP yet.

Record are saying that the directors of Sporting are having another meeting to discuss the departure of Fernandes but they rejected our latest bid.

Sounds like the bid was much closer though 60m - they want 70m. Maybe we stick around in Lisbon and stay on alert to get this one over the line should United return with interest.

Also says the Record report is originally from CMT. I don't know too much about them but they seem to be very gossipy, always got people on rambling and gossiping endlessly.

I think this may confirm that the directors are discussing what to do. Whether to accept our latest bid or wait it out longer.

It does feel like we are there to get this done now.

I’m just waiting for United to bid now

FWIW I was already following Goncalo Lopes on twitter long before he was dropping bombs about Bruno Fernandes yesterday & today. IIRC I did so because he was recommended as a reliable journo for Portugese football so I believe his updates to be genuine.

I feel like this one could move quite quickly and don't believe we would've gone to the lengths of sending two delegates to Portugal without the intention of getting a deal done. Everyone knows Utd have been linked with him all summer so once we made our move it was always going to need to be done quickly to make sure they couldn't jump in. Could even wonder if we've been biding our time waiting for them to be caught up with other deals (Maguire, Dybala etc).

Yeah, he's pretty reliable

With more coming out that Dybala has turned them down I can see them coming back in for him. Completely agree that’s probably why we wanted it done quickly

i know things change minute to minute but JJ was pretty adamant he wasn't coming. I wonder if something concrete has happened with Eriksen and now we're making our move? Or... smoke screen for Dybala :sneaky:

Hi. I'm a long time reader, but decided to actually join because of this thread. I live in Lisbon, and as far as reliability goes, there are a couple of things to note.

A Bola is the Benfica newspaper.
Record is the Sporting CP newspaper.
(O Jogo is a bit more evenly spread, but also a bit Porto).

The rule of thumb at the moment - it was different under Bruno de Carvalho - is that if Record is posting something pro-Sporting, take it with a pinch of salt. If it's anti-Sporting, and that includes news of Fernandes asking to leave, there is quite possibly truth there.
Equally, if it's pro-Sporting in A Bola, it is very likely true. If it's anti-Sporting, it could be anything.

I go to a fair few Sporting games (they're my Portuguese team), and Fernandes is brilliant. The best player in Portugal in my opinion. I would say though that he is far more a Dele-like player than Eriksen. If he is being seen as an Eriksen replacement, I would suggest that it would be because Poch wants to change the way we play. Which I believe is something that has been discussed. Having said that, he actually came to Sporting more in the Eriksen mould, and he's evolved. Possibly because he's better than Liga NOS, so he could. So who knows.

When this first came out I thought this was just to force Betis hand in negotiations, didn't think we'd actually be in for him, big statement of intent if we get him in, always felt United or Liverpool would get him (still might)

Thanks for that. What's your thoughts on Goncalo Lopes though?

I don't really know I'm afraid. I don't watch Portuguese tv, and don't pay attention to which journalist is which online. I sometimes buy Record or A Bola as a way to practice my Portuguese, and just know that their allegiance is as above.

From watching his highlights, it's the same conclusion I came to. Definitely looks more in the Dele mould than an Eriksen type.

No bad thing then, Dele needs to up his game sharpish, he’s no longer a guaranteed starter, or at least shouldn’t be.

Competition for his place is needed.
