I was alerted to this by @riggi in another thread so had a little look on the bbc.

Don’t know anything about this Farnell bloke, but it sounds like he’s been involved in both Bury and Wigan in recent times, and they aren’t exactly doing great are they. Know even less about the Egyptian business man.

Cant see this being a Man City style money pit.

Farnell recently had a ban from owning a club in England overturned by the Football League.

Can see some serious asset stripping happening. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them in the same boat as Wigan, Bolton etc in 3-4 years time.

That would totally suck. Burnley one of the best run clubs though I know they are tight with wages/transfers. But the Egyptian millionaire's source of funding is suspect at least to me. He worked for multi-national corporations (Coke Cola, etc) then owns a bunch of restaurants in Dubai. Nothing that screams high net worth. So where's the money coming from? Another backer but in the shadows?

Who knows. Maybe he's from a very wealthy family. See how it goes for Burnley.

Hope for Burnley’s sake it doesnt go through. For one thing the Englishman involved was banned from owning a club in England so you already he’s shady to say the least. For the other, sorry but a restaurant owner is the money man? In this environment? Please. If hes the guy with the money Burnley are in heaps of trouble.

From Reddit:

BURNLEY FANS BEWARE.

This guy was involved with Chris Farnell and Paul Elliott in the deal that almost liquidated Charlton.

His credentials and claims that he has previously worked for Coca-Cola and P&G are sketchy at best.

Charlton fans did a lot of research on this guy over the last few months. No doubt what we’ve learned will be passed on to the Burnley supporters trust to ensure that they can safeguard their club.

Ed: it seems that the Charlton supporters trust are in communication with Burnley fan representatives, providing as much background information on these characters as possible.

We will not let these cowboys threaten the existence of another football club. Fans United.

It'll be interesting to see if this takeover gets turned down by the powers that be (us included) but i seriously doubt there will be any real opposition to it, unlike Newcastle because that was going to mess with the status quo.

I think the Newcastle one was turned down because it would have been a PR catastrophe for the premier league, it was going to hurt income from tv deals. They didn‘t really care that it would change the status quo, or indeed that it was being funded by a blood thirsty absolute monarch who commits atrocities that would make Henry the 8th blush.

Hope for a Burnley’s sake this gets turned down too though.

I know that many won’t agree and money in the corporate world is unlikely to be completely ‘clean’ but I wouldn’t swap ENIC for most other options and no, I’m not a BSoDL or some kind of fan boy - just someone who knows the grass isn’t always greener.

It's never been about the persons background or morality, City are owned by a state that runs their country like it's still 1066. The Newcastle buyout was only ever about protecting the established top 6 and the money they generate through TV deals, CL revenue, merchandising etc. You only have to look back over the past month with Project Big Bollocks and the talk of a European super league again - try explaining to the Glazers that they need to accept finishing 7th for the foreseeable future because England still only has 6 European spots and now 7 teams are competing for them.

Indeed. It's like the difference between getting some mud on your clothes and diving into a swamp. In today's football, you're never going to be completely clean. But that doesn't excuse opening one's arsehole up to a cesspit enema (Man City).

The new owners dont exactly reek of being in it for the game!

From a sky sports article:

“On Wednesday, Farnell had his disqualifying condition lifted by an independent Arbitration Panel that had prevented him becoming a director of a football club since August, when he failed the EFL's Owners and Directors' Test during an attempted takeover of Charlton Athletic.“

I can’t see this being great for Burnley.

Except Dwight McNeil who's mixed race. I'm sure if Lukaku was knocking on the door saying he only wants to sign for Burnley they'd turn him down because he's black.

Obvious sarcasm is thankfully obvious. But not to all it seems.

As for the original question, it's unusual but in addition to McNeil they also had Lennon up until the summer. I certainly won't read anything in to it.

Off tangent but I noticed it on Monday, but is every single Burnley player white?

Bit of a ridiculous statement isn't it? Jay Rodriguez is basically spanish - give him a flight over the atlantic and he would suddenly not be 'white' by definition.
It's not like they have a team of BNP members - they just have a lot of fairer skinned people that are European (e.g. Pieters, Gudmunsson, Vydra etc.)

No, just a passing observation.
