We played a lot of very good, stylish, creative football in the first half against Wolves ... and still contrived to lose.

People somehow are managing to post incredibly simplistic stuff and overthink this, at the same time! Not sure if that's even possible, but that's what the thread is like. It's what every thread is like right now.

We've lost 50 goals per season from our squad. We have two world-class strikers and they reliably get us 50 goals a season, if they're fit. Despite the make-do, compromise, neither-one-thing-nor-the-other style of football that comes when you change managers in mid-season, we were consistently winning matches, even without Kane, until Son got injured. Then we started losing.

Snap. That's it. Either we play permeable football so our non-strikers can maybe nick a few goals and we concede more, or we play conservative football, concede a goal anyway and can't score.

We've lost 50 goals a season from our squad. Even if we assume that the replacements for Son & Kane are pitching in with 10 more goals than they would normally score, that's 1 goal per game we aren't scoring. That's 40 goals off your goal difference at the end of the season. You lose matches when that happens. You don't finish higher than midtable when that happens.

We were doing fine with Son stepping up for Kane. The football was messy, but we won the matches. That's why it's great to have two world-class strikers in your squad. Until we didn't.

We've lost 50 goals a season from our squad and we changed managers in mid-season. That's all the explanation we need.

Let's just grind it to the end of the season, continue the squad rebuild this summer, give Mourinho a preseason to make them into his own team and write off 2019/2020 as a shit-show of injuries and transition.
But at the same time we are conceding about 50 goals confidence has drained because of it.

Do we expect Hugo to start?

Still intrigued to know the rational behind vorm starting over Gazza on Wednesday.

I'm assuming Vorm started Wednesday because Gazza is playing today.

The bolded bit is one that's been almost totally ignored on this site. We actually played very good football that half, it was our best and most cohesive performance since long before Mourinho took over, and if nothing else this is something which should give people hope. But then I come on here and read all this tosh about long ball and overly defensive football which quite frankly is incorrect and just a pre-formed opinion being spouted in the face of all evidence. It's ridiculous.

It's March and if Burnley beat us today they will go above us in the league, that pretty much tells us all we need to know about our season.

From Simon Stone:
Twenty minutes until the teams are announced but I can confirm Tottenham's Eric Dier has arrived at Turf Moor.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has been as good as his word and picked Dier despite the controversy that surrounded the England man jumping into the stands to protect his brother after Wednesday's FA Cup defeat by Norwich.

Wow is quiet here but I'm not letting you guys down, I'm ready for a line up break down.
Shit, fuck, arse and hole, not 11 Tottenham players put together into a formation THIS WEEK TOO.

If Davies is injured it's not the end of the world (albeit typical and frustrating for himself after only returning recently). Vertonghen is as good as him at left back and if we need pace we have Tanganga or Sess.
