Would be a fantastic buy at the price mentioned. He may not have had a fantastic season but Bournemouth in general have been poor and he hasn't had the same level of service (Fraser has also been hit and miss). A new start under Jose could be all it takes for him to start firing again. At 10m, he would be an absolute steal. If the price is true however, I'm sure we would face some stiff competition.

Chavski were rumoured a year ago.

He also may well have been offered a 'cheap escape' as part of signing his new deal?

Well the attributes you described don't require a target man, which is why you had me confused.

I guess it depends on what sort of hold-up play we’re talking about. If it’s battering long balls forward to a striker the ball can stick to, perhaps someone bigger would be more appropriate. Wilson, though, can definitely do the job of running the channels, getting the ball in to the corner sort of thing as well as being the first line of defence, high intensity pressing and cutting passing lanes - something a bigger, less mobile forward (a la Llorente) can’t offer to the same extent.

Llorente's game was always about flick ons and lay offs rather than hold up play. One slight criticism I have of Kane is that he wins very few 1st balls in the air which Llorente was always very good at.

I meant he will cost more as he’s home grown, he won’t be sold for £10 million. I was drunk.

I was drunk whilst posting lol, I think I meant he will be over priced as he’s English.

But how drunk, exactly?

Him being homegrown is extremely useful.

Firstly I don't see him managing to get 110k wages if he did join us, that might actually be a sticking point. I think people are not really acknowledging where he would be in the pecking order for us which is why a 10 mill H/G signing would be fantastic.

Our front 3 is currently:

Moura Kane Son

If Kane gets injured then our front 3 would more than likely become:

Moura Son Bergwijn

My point is we're talking about a 3rd choice striker, not a 2nd choice striker. There's an argument to say that Jose would prefer a target man which I think is fair enough there's some credence to that but if we sign him then that means Jose has signed off on that. Wilson would allow us some variety in our attack when Kane is fit if we need it off the bench.

Also makes me laugh seeing people complain that only spurs fans or spurs would be happy with this type of signing; Liverpool have Origi in this role, United have Ighalo in this role. Arsenal have Nketiah in this role. The only 2 teams who have a stronger option in this role is the blood money buddies City and Chelsea.

This would be a good signing in any window; it's a fucking great one during Covid. Get some perspective.

Really excited by this signing. He’s a proven premiership player Who can score goals. We have to protect Kane and make sure he isn’t expected to play 90 minutes for 50+ matches in a season. This guy is a perfect replacement

Yep. It makes far too much sense to be true or even happen!

Llorente won the first ball in the lead up to our third goal in ucl semi final vs ajax ...

He laid the ball off to Dele which is exactly what I said he does (as in, he doesn't tend to bring the ball under control and hold defenders off).

I'm going to start by saying that I would have been all for signing Wilson as back-up to Kane last summer. Unfortunately, I think his form last season was the anomaly, not this season, so it probably would have been a mistake. For me, his failure to back up last season's form raises the question of whether he's up to the challenge at a big club.

For those who think he had an off season this year, here's his PL stats:
Overall - 40 goals / 122 games (average of 8 goals per season, over 5 years)
2015-16 - 5 goals / 13 games
2016-17 - 6 goals / 20 games
2017-18 - 8 goals / 28 games
2018-19 - 14 goals / 30 games (anomaly)
2019-20 - 7 goals / 31 games

His goal tally marginally increased over the course of his first three seasons in the PL, but his goal / game ratio actually decreased each season. His goal return improved drastically (almost doubled) in 2018-19, but now he's back to a similar return as in the previous three seasons. He has only hit double figures once in five seasons. That gives him a 20% chance of reproducing that form next season. It could be argued that playing in a stronger team will make it easier for him to score, but that's possibly cancelled out by the fact that he won't be a regular starter.

In domestic cups, during the same five years, he scored 3 goals in 11 games - and even counting goals in all competitions he has still only hit double figures in 2018-19 (plus 2014-15...in the Championship).

Maybe scoring less than 1 in 3 is good enough for a back-up, if they make a decent overall contribution and allow us to maintain our system when Kane is injured / rested. However, I'm not convinced it's an upgrade on playing one of existing wingers / AM as a no.9 or false 9 though - this is the point that Poch made in the past when the club was criticised for not signing another striker. Factoring in that his current salary would make him our 4th highest paid player, I'm even less convinced this is a good signing. Taking a risk on giving opportunities to Parrott or another young striker could be better.
