Can we take a moment to laugh heartily at Everton?

If this happens they're very likely going down, and I think administration is a real possibility. Wouldn't mind seeing the title of this thread changed - it's gone from being a bit funny to being a very, very sad situation.

So they have one charge and are getting a points deduction. What's the update with the Man City case.

It's a far more complicated case - Everton is simple overspending which they're trying to justify using Covid and the stadium, Man City is effectively fraud on a mass scale. I'm sure they'll be charged, but I doubt the process will be finished this season or probably even the one after.

I think even with a 12 point deduction they will still escape relegation due to Sheff Utd, Luton, Burnley and Bournemouth being absolutely shite and doubtful any of these 4 will get close to 25 points.

If you were getting 12 points deduction then this season is the season to take it and how ever shite Everton maybe they should surpass the aforementioned 4 shite teams.

This was actually my first thought too, if you get a 12 point deduction this is 100% a season where you could still potentially overturn it.

Sounds mad, and of course it would be tough, but if they get deducted and then focus on beating Burnley, Sheffield, Luton, Bournemouth… and a few others, in this of all seasons it’s actually somehow doable.

Feel like someone could stay up this season with a terrible points total. At this point I’d be impressed if Sheffield United made it to 15.

Nah 12 points would relegate them imo. They are decent in the odd game but absolute trash against the team’s they should be beating. Bournemouth will get a new manager and move up the table. Luton have their only win against Everton, they might go down even without the deduction.

Also as with other posters, my first thought went to Man City. I get that it’s complicated but what they have done is far worse but no doubt someone will get paid off to brush it under the rug.

City will have the world's best legal team working with them to wriggle out of any possible point deduction or relegation threat

They got out of the UEFA ban by literally holding it up in litigation and flexing their money by saying we will essentially hold this up until you go broke. It worked lol

Anyone else not in the mood to laugh at Everton - big club, big fan base and history, run into the ground by a series of appallingly incompetent decisions.

Fee sorry for them really
Exactly. They are basically like Tottneham in a way in terms of stature and history. Decent club who can be admired.

Far far far worse clubs than them to have something inflicted on them.

It's incredibly more frustrating when those clubs, who are worse than them, escape punishment (City, Chelsea)

UEFA's investigation was also time-barred, while the PL's is not. That makes a big difference, City can't just obfuscate until it goes away this time.

If City get punished then the super League will be up and running the season after.
UEFA and EPL know this.

Will other prem clubs be brave enough to join this time? Not sure. If it’s City and all the broke European clubs, and probably Chelsea, then fine.. won’t be missed.

I'll be very sad to see them drop down and possibly be facing a financial nightmare with an incomplete new stadium to boot.

The money on offer will dwarf the EPL deal.
They'll be plenty of takers.
Liv golf and the Saudi league is an example of what happens when huge sums of money are thrown around 😭

I'll be rooting for Everton, except against us, this season

That they'd get yeeted but the scumfucks who have helped upend football - especially by outrageously inflating the transfer market - as a whole for the last 20 years in Chelsea and now Citeh get trophies and adulation instead of exile is galling.

you know Everton also did this using money from the equally dodgy Usmanov? The whole reason they are up on these charges is because of their outrageous spending over the last 6 or 7 years which is equally unfair to the likes of Leeds, Burnley etc who got relegated because they couldn’t compete financially. If they get a points deduction and subsequent relegation there’ll be no sadness from me. I very much dislike Everton and their whinging, booing fan base.

Agree that I don’t want to see them go into administration, surely something can be done to avoid that. I would’ve laughed if it was just a relegation but they don’t deserve to go out of existence. If it was Liverpool on the other hand then I’d be delighted to see them vanish from the face of the earth!

I agree with your point. I still have a little sympathy with them simply because City and Chelsea have been going it for over a decade and in that time have amassed more silverware between them than Everton have in the last 100 years.

Yet it’s Everton that are going to get whacked with a points deduction. It’d be like the guy who finished middle of the field being disqualified for PEDs while Lance Armstrong was let off.
