So despite me tuning in to watch it on Wednesday night, it transpires that this is actually tomorrow night. The sneaky swine.
Anyway...who is everyone rooting for?
Normally if the question was:
1. The free flowing masters of football with the best player in the world and a history of being a club that rejects authority, stands for the people and until recently either didn't have a sponsor or if it did it was Unicef; or
2. A club not long ago mired in the biggest cheating scandal in European football and from a league synonymous with turgid boring defensive-minded football,
then the answer would be clear.
But the Italian league is a different beast these days (I think it had more goals than any other this season), and Juve have done magnificently to get to a final that not many people gave them a chance of reaching.
It could be the perfect swansong for two of the best players of the last 15 years (Buffon and Pirlo) and a fitting tribute in the year of the 30th anniversary of the Heysel disaster (or that slight stadium snafu as Liverpool would call it).
So are we all agreed that we want a Juve win? I think it is unlikely, and even with their brilliant midfield I'm just not sure how much of the ball they'll see. Also Chiellini being out is a massive blow. But I think they can keep it competitive, and as long as they stay in the game in the first half then it's there for the taking.
Come on you Old Lady!
