Crouch's touch

I know that fans are divided on Peter Crouch's footballing skills, but during Saturday's game he performed a little shuffle right on the touchline that took him and the ball away from two Portsmouth defenders hemming him in - and which would have been classed as sensational if it had been Berbatov or the like. Sky would have repeated it endlessly, and the pundits would have been raving. But it was Crouch, so it's pretty much disregarded.

Having long been an admirer of what I consider to be his quick feet, I just wondered if many others had noticed the move on Saturday, and what people generally think of his contribution when the ball's at his feet.

Crouch is very skillfull, his akward frame is all that stops him being on many highlight reels, his bodyshape and stance makes what he does look less impressive than it actually is.

Plus he isnt held in the same esteem as the worlds best, had Arshavin or Fabregas down that very move you would see it in Sky sports and ESPN classic highlight reels for decades to come like the Bergkamp goal against Newcastle ;)

He also hoofed the ball 40 yards on more than one occasion when trying to simply flick it over a defender yesterday.

The technical ability he showed when he had an over head kick saved was amazing for a player of his size.

After he did it he played a perfect ball back to kanu which took away the magic

Crouch continues to show why Fabio and Harry know a lot more about football than the many 'Crouch attackers' amongst the spurs fans

...and yet there were still people slagging him off yesterday... The guy next to me on several occasions called him a 'fucking wanker'...

Abbey likes Peter's touch and that's all he cares about.

But yeah, massively under-rated. Can do a job to feet or in the air. Outstanding defending set pieces too. Doesn't score enough but isn't often in the position to score the goals cos he's trying to set them up for his partner. Very important player for us and deserves his place in the team.

He's had acouple of good games Crouch, and that shuffle was impressive. but on the same token, the incident with him juggling the ball in their box, in the second half and ultimately going for a goal kick was comical. There were arms and legs everywhere and he must have had about 6 attempts to get it under control.

Am i the only one who read the title of the thread, didn't click on it, but spent the next few minutes chewing over the peculiarities of the English language?

Crouch and Touch have the same last four letters but are pronounced differently, which i suppose is kinda good as if you pronounced Crouch (cr'ow'tch) using the same rules as pronouncing Touch (tu'tch) then he becomes Crutch.

Equally, try and apply the same a rules from Crouch to Touch and you end up with Tow'tch, which is just wierd...

anyways, back to work.
