SPURS youngster Danny Rose has been called up to England's Under-21 squad for the upcoming European Championships in Sweden.

The 18-year-old joined the Lilywhites from Leeds two years ago, but has yet to appear for the first team, and has made seven appearances for Watford this season during a loan spell.

Rose was included in the senior Spurs squad for the recent trip to Everton, and played 90 minutes for England Under-19s on Monday night in a 2-1 win over Scotland.

The attacking midfielder has now been selected by Stuart Pearce as England's young Lions take on the best of Europe's emerging talents, kicking off on Monday June 15, after Manchester United's Danny Welbeck pulled out with a knee injury.

It has been a less successful week for another member of the Tottenham squad, Ricardo Rocha, who has been released by the club at the end of his contract.

The 30-year-old Portuguese defender made 18 appearances for Spurs after arriving from Benfica in January 2007 for £3.3million, but has not made a first team showing since September 2007.

Spurs have released another 11 reserve and under-18s players this week, including defender Cian Hughton - the son of former Spurs player and assistant manager Chris Hughton.

Simon Dawkins, Kyle Fraser-Allen, Danny Hutchins, David Hutton, Jacques Maghoma and Takura Mtandari have departed Clive Allen's reserve set-up, while academy coach Alex Inglethorpe has bid farewell to Saulo Asajile, Mark Clare, James Dalton and Ajet Shehu.

Our latest Young Lion speaks

Danny Rose has revealed his delight for the first time since being called up to represent England at this summer's European Under-21 Championships in Sweden.
The midfielder, yet to make his first team debut at Spurs following his move from Leeds United in July 2007, was added to Stuart Pearce's 23-man squad on Tuesday - the day of his 19th birthday - after a number of injury withdrawals.
Danny had already been invited to take part in the Under-21s training camp in Spain this week ahead of the Championships, which begin on June 15.
But it wasn't until he shone in three games for the England Under-19s over the past week that he put himself firmly in the reckoning for the Swedish adventure.
He told tottenhamhotspur.com: "I played for the Under-19s against Slovakia last Friday in front of Stuart Pearce and Sir Trevor Brooking, and I had a good game.
"After that, I spoke to my friend Danny Welbeck and found out he had dropped out of the Under-21 squad. There had already been a few withdrawals, so I started to think I might be in with a shout.
"When I had finished training with the Under-19s on Saturday, the coach, Brian Eastick, pulled me to one side and said that Stuart Pearce wanted a word with me.
"Even though I could almost see it coming by that stage, I was still in shock when I heard."
No matter what happens at the tournament, the news has ended Danny's season on the highest possible note after what at one point was looking like a year to forget.
After impressing in the Under-18 and Reserve sides during his first season at the Club, the Doncaster-born starlet was struck down by a serious knee injury last September that threatened to wreck his campaign.
Despite what he describes as a bitter blow, Danny worked hard to get back fit for the latter part of the season, when he enjoyed a loan spell at Championship side Watford, playing seven games, before returning to N17 and impressing Harry Redknapp.
"The six months I spent out injured were the worst six months of my life," he said. "I was down, especially seeing Harry Redknapp come in and give other young players a chance in the first team.
"But I came back, started playing well, and I was lucky that the Club let me go out on loan to Watford, and lucky again to get to go to such a big club.
"If I wasn't starting games at Watford, I knew I would be coming off the bench and playing half an hour here and there.
"That sort of experience can only benefit me, and that shows in how I am playing at the moment.
"I've been in some good form as of late. I felt I was playing well at Watford and carried that into training when I got back to Spurs.
"I got on the bench for the first team game against Everton, mainly due to injuries, but it still felt good."
Now Danny has been thrust into a group of the best young players this country has to offer in an environment that can only be described as perfect preparetion for future senior international tournaments - such as World Cups and European Championships - that all Young Lions hope to one day be involved in.
"I'm still over-the-moon that I've been selected, and even if I don't play a minute of football at this tournament, I'll still feel privileged just to be out there," Danny concluded.
"Stuart Pearce must think highly of me to even consider taking me out there with these kind of players at such an important tournament.
"I want to test myself alongside the best players in England, so hopefully the experience will improve me and I can come back to Spurs and show the manager I'm good enough to be part of his squad."

Danny and his new team-mates take on Azerbaijan in a friendly at Milton Keynes next Monday before beginning their European Championship campaign against Finland a week later.
