I've been really hoping all these rumors were nothing but pure fabrication. Welbeck is bang average. always has been and always will be.

I don't really rate Welbeck all that highly BUT I think he's an upgrade on Lennon and Townsend behind the striker in a front three, he would chip in with more goals than either of them and at the right price (around £10m) I wouldn't be too badly against him.

Arsenal may need him with Giroud injured but he's not out that long so why join a team to play for a month and then be put back on the bench week in week out

Wellbeck is a grafter and can score the odd goal, which I guess is why Poch thinks he'll be an upgrade on Lennon and defo an upgrade on Townsend..

We've had Baldini scouring the globe for the last 12 months. If the best that he can come up with is Danny Welbeck he should be shot.

Danny Welbeck is clearly a temporary option seeing as we only want him for a loan. I'm guessing we will sign J-Rod in January or in the summer, seeing as Poch wants him.

The dynamics behind this story are all about ManU wanting rid of a squad player who isn't part of LvG's plans. There's a potential deal to be done, but it's got sod all to do with Spurs actively chasing Welbeck.

Fair nuff till J Rodd is fit. But look at the trouble we've had in getting MS. Will Rod be easier? I know his contract is running down but he'd still have 18 months left.

Where are all the hidden gems that Baldini is meant to unearth? Why are we not going for the Will Hughes and Patrick Roberts's of this world and what happened to all those eastern european kids we get linked with? Get back to buying the Modrics, Berbas and Bales if we want to improve. Yes they might take a little while to settle but next year we could have a world class player rather than be shipping deadwood.

He's goal rate is better than Lennon and Townsend, same as kane and Lamela, so..............

Funny all the hate pops up when it starts to look unlikely lol

Think he's a good player. But we have loads of good players. We want special players to progress. LWF is one of the areas where we can improve, we should be trying to get the best possible player we can afford. Danny Welbeck is underwhelming.

The thing is though I can see why some are underwhelmed when they think about the signing in isolation - for want of a better phrase. But its his pace, work rate and ability to play for the team that could work really well in the Poch system.

Another words he could improve our team dynamic.

I'll trust the manager. If it's what he wants then fair enough.

To be fair the squad is in good nick, and now with another centre half in we'd have to sell a bunch to bring in a bunch. We need home grown and we need wing forwards, hence Welbeck & J-Rod being looked at.

Baldini's job now is to look for U21 talent, preferably U18 talent.

But if it's a loan then we're not paying anything for him yet except wages.

I can see why Poch would want him. He's trying to inculcate a philosophy which requires players who have more than just talent. Mata is a great example of that - why didn't Jose want him? Obviously not because he lacks talent, he has it in abundance. But Mata, though he's such an attacking asset, is a defensive liability. Some managers accept that for one or two players but Mourinho didn't.

We would want Welbeck as cover for the left wing and up front because he has the workrate to press aggressively for 90 minutes, and the success of this system is based on intense pressing as a unit. He also has plenty of pace and imo a decent football brain, and is pretty good at seeing passes. So he may not be the flashiest player we could buy, but as an option to rotate with Chadli and our forwards we could do a lot worse. Like I said earlier in the thread, there's a reason why Ferguson trusted Welbeck in big games.

Even though I rate him, it would be quite amusing seeing the Arsenal fans reaction if he rocked up there on Monday now they're all drooling over Falcao. Infact, it would be frigging hilarious...

Underwhelming is probably the perfect fit for my view of this potential move. I don't really see the point of it, nor how DW would 'significantly' improve the squad. I suppose I have to trust in Poch's views as he knows a million times more than I do about players, potential and how they will fit into his system of play.
