Remember a guy called Edgar Davids. Similar could be said of him, yet his arrival was really beneficial to our development. Villa would have a similar impact imo.

Don't get me wrong I still think he will be quality with us, doesn't mean having concerns has to be mutually exclusive to that view.

every transfer has an element of risk.

I think on the transfer risk-o-meter that David Villa easily falls on the worth-taking side of the dial.

Its David Villa.

the article suggesting that he should of done better last season is a joke imo

There is a reason why he didnt score more and reason why a team of world class players did struggle to score goals other than messi and there is a reason why Messi fell out with Villa with suggestions of Messi not passing on purpose to Villa when he was through!

Worryingly he has been in the game for a long time and he has suffered a very bad injury but he has the ability to score or finish which is something we are desperate for as well as the ability to get in dangerous positions in the box. Him getting older isnt going to change that?

Look at the effect Raul who was way past it when he left Madrid had on Schalke and I think Villa will do that for us! Also genuine question, in a years time if a team was parking the bus and we needed a goal would you rather bring on defoe or Villa to get a goal?

Smart of Spurs to propose a compromise.

Barcelona lumber themselves with an expensive player who will leave for free at the end of next season, or they sell slightly under the value and get rid of 11m Euros (salary) from the books. His contract jumps 3.5m for the final year of the deal.

Barca's options: Pay 11m for no return with Neymar taking his place or sell at 8m and save 8m on salary as well. That 3m variable seems like the ideal place to negotiate for me.

Doesn't mean he won't drop us if someone bigger comes calling though. We may be in pole position at the moment but we're not a big enough draw that players will want us and no one else.

I can understand Levy using the fact he'll be a free agent in 12 months as a bargaining chip but it's a risky game. For me, if Villa wants to come we should be a little more willing to meet Barcelona in the middle. There's a time and place for Levy's poker games and imo this is not one of them.

Anyway, its only early July and whose to say that we'll not come to an agreement soon.
Point taken dagraham but I'm pretty sure he's not looking for someone bigger even if they wanted him, I think he's looking for a big enough club but where he'll get to play lots in this season running up to the World Cup, after all who's bigger than Barcelona?
You see last summer I had taken my optimistic hat dug a six foot hole and buried it under a ton of concrete never to see it again and guess what? At some time during this close season it turned up on my doorstep, I tried to ignore it for weeks but in the end I caved and it sits, with a slight tilt to one side on my previously pessimistic head at this very moment, Villa is ours and Daniel is clawing back some money too.

I agree with the reservations brought up in the footie365 article about Villa.

But talking about what's 'most prudent ' for the club you support to do when looking at signing new players, is like being 8 years old and being asked by your parents if you think they should buy a brand new car.

'New car' sounds way more exciting than 'no new car'. And while you have a vague knowledge that there's money involved, you don't really care because it's someone else's money, which you never see. But if they turned it into a car, then you share a slice of that enjoyment.

It's on their OS.

€5.1m and 50% of his future transfer fee.

For fuck sake. That's a fucking pittance.
