No Grealish either. No Maddison (who's injured I think). Odd to have a squad with none of them. Only Foden with any midfield flair in there.

He'll have to work very hard to get out back, the England squad doesn't pick itself anymore.

I like these comments from Dele regarding Mourinho’s questioning of his effort and lifestyle early on:

Of course when someone like Mourinho speaks to you, you listen every time,” he said. “It was one of those moments, our first real conversation, where it was just us two in the office.

“At the time you don’t think about cameras even though they are there. It was the first discussion we had. As a player, I say young but I am not that young any more. In that situation when such a big manager comes in, the situation we were in, of course you’re waiting for the first conversation.

“Everyone was waiting to realise and try to get a little taste of what he thinks of you, what he has experienced from another club looking in and seeing you play.

“Yes it was a real conversation. It means a lot to players when you have that conversation and it is so honest. It is not just them saying what you want to hear.

“Sometimes it can be difficult to take, but you realise that it’s not a negative conversation. Like he said in some of the clips he’s saying it to help and I know that, I am not silly.

“It is something that stays with you. Watching it back I obviously remember it a lot more. By now I still remember the whole conversation. It comes from a good place. It gives you something to work towards and open your eyes a little bit.”

Perhaps the issue with he and ndombele/pogba

Dele can take the somewhat embarrassing dressing down, but they can't and no longer wanna work with the boss

Possibly, I don't actually find it that embarrassing. It's challenging, but there's a lot of ego stroking carrot on that stick

Not sure I want players at the club so thin skinned that they can’t handle a bit of bluntness.

One of Hoddle’s favourite anecdotes is this:

"I'd scored a hat-trick for the youth team and the following morning the manager said: 'Young Hoddle, your third goal - - you took a big risk with that. You should have passed.'"

And Cliff Jones:

"I remember feeling really pleased with myself after playing a good game until Bill said: 'Remember, son, a pat on the back is only two feet away from a kick up the arse!'"

Top managers are often toughest on the most talented players as those are the players who, if they hit their heights, will make up for the players in the side who are all function and no frill.

Good quotes from Dele. We need the real Dele back. The one that gets up in the face of the opponent and is always a threat in the box. Hopefully this season sees that, free from injuries and more determined than ever.

You watch Thomas Muller still bossing big games for Bayern at 30, Dele needs to study him, he has the unique skill set to replicate him.

Having watched the first few Amazon episodes it has made me believe Jose has the potential to get Dele to kick on and be more consistent. Jose clearly believes Dele has another level to reach and if he doesn't realise it under him I'm not sure he will. I think he'll be a beast this season.

Well interesting that Dele is the most lazy in training and Jose talking to Levy about having to motivate him in a different way.

Good stuff coming from that documentary, interesting that SAF told Jose to buy Dele when he was Man Utd manager, also Jose and Levy were pretty much on the same page when they said that he's dropped off a few levels.

Dele has a lot of potential, I'm actually excited to see what he can do this season providing he can stay injury free.

If he can motivate himself to reach a consistent level of performance, near his best, a lot of football fans (including our own) will go quiet. JM clearly rates him and wants more, not because he is trying to make him better with limited talent, but because I think JM knows what Dele is capable of.

We shall see, but I feel really optimistic Dele will be one of our players of the season. (Iniury pending).

I think it's interesting that the documentary has backed up what a lot of us felt about Dele - that he was coasting somewhat and maybe not as focused on his football as he could be. He's so gifted but it felt like he had reached a plateau and wasn't really working to improve his game in training like the very best players do. In the past few years he's continually made the same types of mistakes in games: holding onto the ball too long, dribbling/doing tricks in poor areas, etc. These aren't technical issues - they are things that he could iron out of his game if he really put in the hard graft.

He's at a crossroads now: he's lost his place in the England team, is no longer a guaranteed starter at Spurs and is in danger of slipping down the pecking order. Hopefully now that Jose has given him a reality check and there's really something at stake for the first time in a few years, he'll follow the example of players like Kane, Lampard, Ronaldo, etc, who are obsessed with improving their games and getting every last drop out of their talent. He'll need to if he wants to have any chance of getting into the England squad next summer.

Hunger definitely seems to be the biggest issue with Dele as he hasn't just stagnated, he has gone backwards.

Ironically hunger also seems to be Ndombele's problem but in a totally different way.

If we can get the Kane and Dele partnership back to what it was a few years ago I think we could have a really good season.

These two compliment each other when Dele plays further up the field, with Dele playing as CF and Kane as ST. I hope we don't see Dele pissing about in the middle of the park or out wide next season.

He should totally model himself on TM. He has the talent, just needs the commitment and to mould his body into that of a long distance runner lol

Seriously though, big season for dele

Worth noting: The first 3 episodes was when Dele was back to his best, right after the Mourinho appointment.

Let's see in the last 6 episodes how this unfolds, and when Dele went back to not performing at all for the rest of the season.

Also quiet disappointing that after we won the first 3 games under Mourinho we were back to being 5th place, and somehow still end up finishing 6th. Meh!

The trailers look like they've made a big thing about losing Son and Kane so I'm pretty sure they're going to focus on that reason as to why we didn't push on.

I think you forgot about the injuries to Kane and Son for a large chunk of the season - that was the main reason.
