I keep seeing this raumdeuter phrase used for Dele. 100% convinced that the vast majority of you had never even heard of it until football manager incorporated it as an option a few years ago.

Anyway, John White is the original and best ghost.

As for Dele, World is still his oyster in terms of what kind of player he’ll end up as and much will depend on what’s going on between his ears, because he scores goals, he makes goals, he’s incredibly naturally fit, he’s tall and he can do incredible things with the ball out of nothing. He’s coming to an age now where he needs to be more consistent and he needs to work hard to maximise his strengths, so it’s up to him.

Ghost huh? I kinda like that description rather than 'The space interpreter'.

As for the rest of your post, I 100% agree.

The nothing player that Ferguson was desperate for Utd to buy.

I have no doubt that Alli can become a key player for this team again. To me he is the opposite of a nothing player when he is playing well. Except for running past players what is it that he can't do? He runs, he combines, he scores, he tackles, his close control is solid, his awareness of what goes around him is world class etc.

I think Mourinho is 100% correct about Alli. When he plays well he is great, but he got to be a lot better when he has an off day. You can't go from scoring 2 goals and setting up another goal to being invisible for 5 games (or half a season).

It's up to him to stay focused and as fit as he can be. I am not 100% convinced he can, but I am expecting him to be a lot better this year than he has been for some time. Maybe not reaching 18 goals again, but double figures and generally more involved is certainly within reach.

Other than Watford, he looked really sharp in the pre-season games imo. Looking forward to seeing what he can do this year.

From what I have seen I would agree. Both Alli and Dier look to be back on track - but we won't know until we start to play "real" games again.

imo Dele Alli could be become "England's Thomas Müller". Neither of them are visibly fast and can't dribble for shits, but what they are, is being able to read the space in the final third. TIFO made a good video showing how the role of 'Raumdeuter' fits in. Dele is mentioned as one.

A bold statement, but I even think he could fit as a deep lying playmaker or a B2B.

The difference being that Bayern can afford to carry Muller because they are so much better than their opponents. We cannot afford to carry Alli

Carried him so much last season that his goals and assists combined was the difference between us finishing 6th and 12th when you look at which matches those goals and assists came in. And that’s in a “poor” season.

I think the part of Dele's game that he needs to get right and that he finds it hardest to get consistent at is the simple side of the game. Simple passing, decision making when to dribble or when to pass etc. The sort of things that you get right when your confidence is good or when you are putting the practise in. If he works on these basic skills alongside the already fantastic more intuitive flair he has he will be a world class player again.

Spot on. Part of that is working at his game, but part of that is maturity. The documentary has reminded me that he’s still just a kid, only that he’s one who set expectations very high early on.

Unfortunately another poor performance from Dele. Quite why he seems incapable of controlling a ball is beyond me as he used to be very good at it. His running has dried up aswell which means we do not press well from the front at all.

Dele was always about pressing, energy and goals and now he is delivering none of these, and hasn’t for a while, so it’s a “deliver or you are done” scenario in my opinion. We have a lot of games coming up and he needs to prove he actually wants to be a top level pro.

thought that was the only thing Alli actually did today and that was press. He was often the highest one up pressing pickford and mina. there was little output from him with the ball but that then could be said for nearly all of them today.

He's 24 now with many years in the Prem under his belt, time to deliver or be ushered out of the door. He's got to want it enough and in all honesty, I don't think he does. He's a likeable guy and his story is incredible but he's been woeful on the whole for a fair while now and past glorys only afford you so much slack. He's miles behind the likes of Maddison, Grealish and Mount at the moment.

If we sell him and invest his money on Coutinho or Grealish it would be one of the best decisions we could do.

I like dele as a person and under Poch for 2 seasons he was majestic, he suited the was we played and he was top of his confidence but he’s just not the same player the past few seasons, he’s all about good movement and clever finishes as a second striker and 3rd man runs but as a n.o 10 being relied upon to create chances and dominate a game he is just not that player.

i feel for dele alli hes the scapegoat in all this you dont take off your best hope of scoring a goal from midfield off at half time at least give him 65 minutes fs who else in in the midfield can come up with goals from nothing. you wouldnt take off kane even if hes having a mare because you know he can come up wth goals dele is the same fs especially when he subbed him off for SISSOKO REALLY???????

Dele's issue seems to be that he has abandoned being a midfielder whatsoever and moved straight on to second striker. I kept saying it in the match thread, he wasn't just a #10 he was basically a second striker with Kane both in possession and in defence. We are on our knees crying out for some connection between the Dier-Winks-Toby-PEH monster programmed to play passes within each other then launch an inexplicable longball. Not just crying, truly begging for someone who will take responsibility for the ball within the opposition half and do what a midfielder does : pass the ball and start combinations with other players. Dele seems to have forgotten how to do,, any of that.

Yeah definitely a second striker, actually third with Son being the most advanced player. We need a proper DM if we want to play 4-2-4, and another creative midfielder to get the best out Dele and Kane. Or just drop him and play 4-3-3.

You can see that in the build up attack, that him and Kane moves up in a 2 front-formation. Could be a transition of play or as you said, goes straight for that second striker role.
