I'd say it was more indicative of how few goals Dele has since 31st January 2018 when Lucas arrived than how good Lucas has been. Dele's goals have dried up massively in the last 18 months
But there is an argument that the whole team’s performance pre Jan 18 and post Jan 18 to date is night and day. There are lots of others players whose stats I’m sure look better in the previous period. One of the reasons Dele’s goals are down is because the team isn’t playing as well as it was or scoring as many.

I’m not saying he’s without blame and think he’s a bit of victim of his own initial success. The most worrying thing for me is JM identifying him as a lazy trainer. I think it’s hard to be a lazy trainer and then be at full intensity for games.

If he goes I’ll remember him fondly for some of those magic moments, the two headers against Chelsea, the goals against RM, the Palace volley and the flick against Burnley - that was outstanding.

If you want a more accurate comparison

Of course Moura was being played as a striker for some of that.

That may be the case however his numbers are still impressive when you factor time on field
I just did the maths cos I was interested. Dele scored 21 goals in the 7021 minutes since 31/01/18. A goal every 334 minutes in all competitions. I really want Dele to come back and prove he can still do it. I hope maybe a loan can reinvigorate him or maybe Jose is treating him mean to get a reaction I don't know

For some reason I can’t think of the Burnley one what was that?

Dele has been overhyped from day one by the media, pundits and by most supporters who bought into the hype because of his mesmeric rise from MK Dons. He was playing in a very good team and he clicked when the Dembeles and Eriksens of the world were controlling the game and he was given a license express himself. But when it comes down to him controlling the game he has been found wanting. At times his goals papered over his limitations. For example before that wonder goal against Palace, he was dreadful and people we asking for him to be subbed, he scored that goal and "all was forgiven". Dele is good and but when his flicks and tricks dont work (other teams have worked him out) his limitations are exposed.

In short Dele was not at the level that he and most thought him to be and that realisation, through his recent performances of a year or so, has come home to roost.

Saying all I that if he buckles down I would keep him as he does bring something to the squad.

I really would hate for him to leave..

But having said that, I think his ship has sailed. He could have been given may chances by Mourinho already but he probably overestimated himself. Unless he's still here after the window, there is probably no way he will make his way back into Mourinho's plans. Mourinho is a ruthless prick - lazy and poor attitude and you are definitely out.

Think that could be the last we see of Dele.
If he’s not in the squad for the first of 2 games in a week, that’s pretty damning.

I’m confused why he started the first game though.

I am not particularly outraged by the thought of Dele leaving, but the seemingly knee-jerk u-turn from Mourinho unsettles me a little.

Its not really knee-Jerk, Dele has been below average for nearly two seasons.

Those saying Lucas should score more than him, hmmm, not so sure, Dele had the complete luxury of playing a free role in our team and often as a second striker that drifts.

What i like is Jose can see what most of us can and is acting on it quickly, rather than keep playing a guy who doesn't deserve to be near the starting 11. I think this is great, we need proper balance to this team and people who aren't going to sulk everytime they are subbed after another 5/10 performance. The team is looking way more balanced already, with a CB and back up striker we are good to go and then some tinkering in the DM/CM next year then that's not bad at all.

We've come along way already from the disjointed rubbish i've been watching for 18 months. Glad we have a manager in charge with balls.

It's a great shame that he may be on his way out. Granted, his form hasn't been great the last year or so but neither has Dier's, and he's playing every bastard game.

Mourinho, unfortunately, always needs to find a player to fall out with - it's a shame he chose Alli.

My main issue with Dele is how many touches he needs, he slows down all our counters and seems to take 5 or 6 touches to do what others can do in 1 or 2. Which is annoying... because he's actually better when his instincts kick in.

He's been poor for a while now though, so while it will be sad to see him go, it won't be *that* sad.

It's explained in the Amazon Doc - Sacremento and Jose talk about Dier and Sacremento says "They say he's the only one that enjoys the conflict on the pitch".

Dier will play because he personifies what Jose wants from the team - Dele won't because he doesn't. Again referencing the doc, in I think the last episode they had a disagreement where Dele was blaming the team, and Dier says "name them then. Don't just blame 'the team'. Sitting there like a spoilt child". It seems like Jose really, really wanted Dele to prove him wrong, but I'm not sure he has it in him.

It's possibly a weakness in players who start their top level career as kids, not adults.
