I do think it was a stupid thing for Dier to say. Just opening himself up to rival fans throwing dogs abuse now to wind him up.

Why should any abuse be thrown under the carpet. If it was a black players family receiving racist abuse then I'm sure Danny Murphy would say it is terrible, and rightly so, however to say that he needs to suck it up is just ridiculous. Abuse is abuse and it shouldnt be tolerated in any circumstance.

Yeah, because some forms of abuse are acceptable and we should take it on the chin....what a twat.

Now that Jordan Henderson of his beloved Liverpool has said the same as Dier, I wonder if Murphy will still say the same?

I suspect not.

He does not get wound up during the game.

And, its important to have the conversation. Saying nothing, means nothing will change - and things should change.

Is the abuse actually getting worse, or is it getting better but not as fast as people would like? My (purely anecdotal!) evidence from attending games over the last couple of decades is that it's the latter.

This might seem like semantics to some but I think it's a very important distinction. If a situation is getting better but not as quickly as you'd like then that suggests the approaches you are using are working but that you need to do more. But if a situation is actually getting worse then that suggests that the approaches you are using are counterproductive and should be rethought.

What abuse is he referring to?
Mainly towards his family. Which needs to stop.

Danny Murphy didn't pay attention to the interview and Dier should not just "get on with it" if his family is involved.

Maybe Dier should make a comment on Murphys Potatohead and lack of knowledge and tell him to take it on the chin and get on with it too ?

Maybe so but he's had Joanna Taylor (formerly of Hollyoaks) bounce up & down on his pee-pee, therefore he's clearly 1 nil up on me...
Your problem might be inviting women to "bounce up and down on my pee-pee" mate...

Still, Dier's doing better still:

Got some absolutely classic Sun newspaper style football fake source quotes in here:

'Eric has told pals it has been a great few weeks – getting back into the England squad and landing a stunning girl who was previously on the arm of an Arsenal star. He can't stop scoring on the pitch, and has netted a cracker off of it.'

:ROFLMAO:

The press will now attempt to build him up and then when he fails to live up to expectations, they will tear him down. Just look at Maguire.

I wonder how the multi millionaire potato looking premier league footballer pulled her?
Or, as ,Mrs Merton said when interviewing Debbie McGhee ' So Debbie, what initially attracted you to the short, bald, intensely irritating multi millionaire Paul Daniels?'

Really stretching his hamstring every couple of minutes.

Hope he’s not tweaked anything before next weekend.

Played very well this evening. His passing was very good and was mostly forwards. He won his 1v1’s and looked tidy.

He's really solid in that CCB role.

Think we have to remember how specific that role is in the Conte system, though (and England funnily enough - the system has all the negatives of Conte-ball without the positives). Someone put some stats on Twitter for "average defensive actions per 90" and Dier was the lowest in the entire league:

That's not a slight on Dier as he does what he needs to well in that role. He shouldn't need to do too many actions, as it's the job of the wide CBs, hence Romero has the highest number in the league.

Think it definitely explains why he's looked so much better under Conte, though. If was exposed in a Liverpool/City style high line the dialogue around him would be completely different.

The CCB role plays to all of his strengths and plays away from his weaknesses. It allows him the time to read the game which is a big strength of his, it plays to his strength of winning headers from long balls up to strikers, his long range passing ability and it allows him that bit of extra time get up to speed when covering back, as he’s not the quickest off the mark but once he gets going is rapid. It also removes the need for him defend out wide against wingers which is one of his biggest weaknesses. The role is tailor made for him and he’s been excellent there for us under Conte and fully deserves his England call up
