Yeah I really like him as a bloke. Think he loves Tottenham too. But ultimately there's always been limits there.
What a great post.
Most of us are thinking "he is sh*t" but try and put it a little less aggressively and this post sums it up.
Well played KS

So, so bad player overall. Very limited technically (misses passes all the time for example), gets bullied physically by ****ing Firmino, can't jump on a cross, constantly shits the bed in big matches or in crucial moments of the game. Honestly he's not good enough for us and yes I'm still fuming on him from yesterday.

First season proper at centre back, and having to play with a different partner at RCB and left back from one week to the next. But sure, let's dump him after 19 games. Seems reasonable.

Agree.

Looking through our squad right now I feel there's bigger issues than Dier.

Dier is 27 now. He should be moving into his prime. Unfortunately I don't think his prime is going to be at a particularly high level.

Alderweireld is one injury away from being done. We need an experienced centre back to help along the young talent.

Dier might be that for personality, but not ability.

Needs a senior partner to nurse him through matches (much like Michael Dawson). It all goes pear shaped when he is tasked with being the senior partner. Such a shame we missed out on Skriniar.

If someone is having there first season at CB at the age of 27, for a side with elite club ambitions, that in itself is tin pot. We ain't running a Boys under-12 side.

Possibly.

I think he is partly the victim of being a utility player. I remember his debut against West Ham when he scored the winner and played right back.

He was seen as a centre back but the partnership of Alderweireld and Vertonghen was too good to be broken up. His role as a very deep lying centre mid worked well and if my memory serves me correctly we had the best, or joint best, defensive record in the Prem 2 seasons in a row with him being almost ever present.

But few teams play a centre mid that deep.

Part of me thinks right now we might be best off with Dier playing deep centre mid alongside Hojbjerg and Ndombele given a bit more freedom.

Gareth Barry was also a utility player who grabbed the centre mid role later in his career.

So I don't mind Dier playing centre back but I don't think his ceiling as centre back is that high.

our best defender in toby sits on the bench and this guy continues to play. i dont like wishing injuries on players but dier needs to sod off with some random injury and stop being our main centre back hes shit end off.

So much for end off (of?)...

eric the fridge hoping the fa look back at his incident last season running into the crowd and judge it as aggressive and threatening behaviour and ban him for 10 games

Needs dumping he aint a good cb cant read the game. The longer mourinho relies on this buffoon the shorter he will be in a job

I think that unfortunately the utility player element is the problem. He is right footed but is playing LCB because he is better than the other options.

Werner was too smart for him, he just stepped in front of him as he swung his leg to clear it knowing full well what was coming.
Sums up the majority of our players unfortunately, we’re just prone to individual errors that cost us a goal every other game!
