He has looked really good since Conte came in as the central pivot of the three. He often sits a little bit deeper almost like an old school sweeper, constantly keeps himself free as a passing option to switch the play. Been really impressed with how he’s bounced back. He seems the leader back there too, and I’m sure it’s no coincidence the regular run of games as a trio helped build that strong communication.

He has grown into the player we hoped he would. If England continue with 3 at the back - he’s surely nailed himself on for the central role

I'm sure Dier wants to play for his country. What player doesn't? If Southgate gets his head out of his arse and sees how competent Dier has become in his current role, he'd be mad not to pick Dier now.

Fuck England!

Fuck Southgate!

We know whatl'll happen if he goes to the World Cup. He'll be injured within 12 seconds of the opening ceremony & miss half of the season.

Fuck England!
Cant agree with that.
players will want to be selected
Helps us if they have big match /tournament experience too
Just as much chance of getting injured in training as well
All our players are proud to represent their country - whichever country it is.
So happy to support them when they get selected

Also, having players in our ranks that represent their countries is a big plus when we're trying to attract players who want the same.

At one point we had multiple national team captains. What better than having their captains to play and train alongside week in week out?

2 more games to go and the irrational side of my brain is screaming that daring to praise any player will somehow mean they will make a mistake but I saw a couple of comments this week that were absolutely spot on. One that we don't even notice Dier anymore, that's how fantastic he has become and also that he is our player of the year. Absolutely phenomenal season for him, I'm over the moon with his performances and the Liverpool game in particularly was just superb. I don't think any player has shown the consistency that he has in their role and usually I can make a post last roughly 895,000 words and yet I don't say much about Dier because it's just expected of him this level of solidity at this point. I hope he gets recognised at end of season for how brilliant he has been.

Fair play. At least you took the time to explain, rather than just hit the red disagree icon.

Oh. :cautious:

Anyway, I stand by my original point. Fuck England! I'm sure Dier would love to represent his country. He's proud as fuck, and much, MUCH more passionate about it than most modern day, spoilt rich boys are.

But he's been constantly overlooked.

Players like Mings, Mee, Maguire, Coady, Stones, White, Guehi (who?) , Mitchell (Palace) have all been called up/given time while Dier has been outperforming each and every one of them & not had a look in.

This England manager doesn't deserve Eric Dier.

My stance is not going to change.

Fuck England!

I'm not really sure how he doesn't get in for England either. I think the issue is Southgate still seeing him as a DM but he hasn't been that for years.

If Southgate plays 3 at the back he would be mental to not take Dier.

Love this interview with Dier. He's right, would be a shame if Conte left and I'm hoping it doesn't come to that.

I think the issue is that Gareth Southgate is not a good manager and he's been lucky with the quality of some of players that he's been able to select for England.

He has been as solid as a rock all season and he does such a great job being our leader at the back. One of the first names on our teamsheet after Kane and Son.

Was my MOTM today, another great performance. Seems to be our on field captain, even the refs seem to speak a fair bit to him as it's difficult to communicate with the keeper a lot of the time. I love this spine we have of Lloris, Dier, Hojbjerg and Kane , all with great heads on their shoulders.

As always seems to be the way, a forward has won Player of the Season - but I firmly believe it should have been Dier.
I'm not knocking Sonny for he has been our talisman all season, right from the City game to now. He is often in the shadow of Harry but even his performances have fluctuated.
Eric, though, has been consistent throughout the season and is the leader and organiser of the defence. Our worst period under Antonio was when Dier was out of the team injured
What's more, Eric plays and talks as though it means something to play for Spurs.
He has had to take some unfair criticism from some, but think all now agree that he deserves the praise now coming.
He should be a shoe in for an England defence, but quite happy for him to just concentrate on Spurs.
In short - Eric Dier, my player of the season

Anyone else notice him setting up the free kick routine again at arsenal where Kane shaped to put the ball into the box but then cut it down the channel for sess to run in behind and cross.

Dier explained it to Kane and then went over for a word with sess before taking his place in the middle to get on the end of the ball from sess.

Shows what a leader he is that he’s organising at both ends of the pitch and that Kane listened to him as well.

With England, can only assume Southgate is going to stay with back 4 and is unsure about dier in that role. Still very surprising though that you’d overlook someone with tournament experience, leadership, versatility and in top form.

Especially given he can make those around him calmer snd more organised which lets face it England could go with.

And can take a penalty.

Tbh, on current form, he's probably England's best CB.

I love Eric Dier, not that sure how he feels about me. For me he has been our player of the season and produced the levels and then increased them, from the first season he played DM and would drop into the back 3 with Toby and Jan. Played in different formations and positions over the years, I can understand some of the flack he has got,but in the middle of a 3 this year he has gone to levels that even his biggest supporters would have been surprised by.Love you Eric ,COYS.

Very solid season from ED, who has most definitely benefited from playing in a back three, not sure I still would trust him in a back 4 with two centre half's though.
Think we will look at another CH who can deputise or start ahead of Dier and/or Davies. While Dier might be more solid than Davies, Ben is much better going forward, can pick a pass where as sometimes ED distribution can border on abysmal.
ED has many qualities that will mean anyone coming in will have to do a lot to shift him from his position in the starting 11, but we will also have a lot of games next year, so vital we upgrade on Sanchez, Tanganga and Rodon with quality, who not only puts pressure on Dier, but the entire back 3.
Personally delighted Dier has turned it around, same can be said of Davies, both have thrived under Conte.
