Why can't we try and challenge for a CL position and win the EL, like Chelsea did?

Yes players will want CL footie but that alone won't keep them. Van Persie, Fabregas, Nasri, etc., weren't content with CL football and no real trophy prospects every season.

I would rather be 'also rans' with several trophies under our belt than regular CL fodder that has to sacrifice all cup runs in order finish 4th.

Why can't we challenge like Chelsea did?? You may or may not know that Chelsea are owned by one of the worlds richest men who is happy and able to pay mega transfer fees and wages.....we have never had the financial firepower of Chelsea.

Sorry, but if you're content for winning competitions against European pub teams on pitches that resemble Irish peat bogs, then maybe you need to reevaluate your expectations. Or would you be happy with the Emirates Cup if you were an AFC fan?

How can anyone hate a European cup victory???????????? Nobody in their right mind, unless maybe they don't actually go to games or understand the history involved

I can still smell that UEFA Cup victory 30 years ago!! Bloody hell 30 years ago omg!!!! You don't get many nights like that in your lifetime......

Finishing 4th as opposed to winning a cup. It's a no brainier isn't it?

We don't belong there then simple as its quite evident we can't cope with mid week European games.
But that's like saying this years winners of the Championship have no right/chance to play in next years Premier League just because they haven't got the squad now!!

Increase in stature=finances and reputation to acquire a better squad that will hopefully cope.

There was no CL in '84, the UEFA cup was about 8 games long and meant something. The EL doesn't.

I don't like it anymore than you, but I'm not blinkered by so-called short term success over long term stability and improvement.

No doubt Wigan enjoyed their venture in the EL.....bet that more than made up for relegation from the PL.

To be totally honest, I'm absolutely fed up with this whole damn argument with fans who fail to acknowledge something that opposition managers and pundits state week after week.......too many games affect performance.

If you dare to look at our league performances before and after EL games year after year after year you can't see any other trend......any five year old who can add 1+1 could see!

We have lost 5 out of 7 PL games after EL games AGAIN!!

Maybe the current and last manager have had stars in their eyes, looking for personal glory.......me? I'm here more long term, want my club to succeed not just this year, but next and compete against the best, among the best, with the best players.

If someone can come up with one genuine reason for the post-EL displays, just one, then I will listen......but all this glory glory bull is wayyyy off

The rest of you can be happy with mediocrity if you like......you're refusal to accept the obvious path to success tends to indicate you deserve it.

Ok.....just to help some out, 3 questions.

1. Who is the only manager to get us in to the Champions League?
2. What was that year in the CL like as a Spurs fan?
3. What was Harry's view of the Europa League and how did he address it?

(I'm not debating the pro and cons of Harry himself...but playing the kids preserved the first team that year for the League = Fact)
