I totally understand what you’re saying and agree to a point but just imagine how toxic it would get for Levy if he didn’t back Conte properly and Conte decided to walk.
Levy has absolutely nowhere to hide now imo.

I think Conte will be backed, just depends on whether it is as rapidly as he wants - it is as if Conte has all the power here, because like you say if he doesnt get backed - its all on Levy and co.

My question though is - you say Levy has nowhere to hide, where do you think he is going to go:? You think us booing him will get him out? no one has 2.5bn to spend on us. So he is as safe as houses.

Conte gives him the best chance to redeem his past errors - only January and the summer will tell

Everything I've read that Conte has said post match is encouraging. I don't know why some are worried. We need a manager that sees it, and says it. Remember Levy, last chance for you also. Back the manager. Give him what he needs. Stop pissing about. We're a huge club, let's act like one. Right now, we are an embarrassment.

Hotspur88 and other ITK's have said Conte will be backed...it was evident when he took over that the team was in need of a major overhaul and nothing has changed since!
No bids are in yet, and every club if the player is not free, wil demand premium from Spurs as they know how desperate they will be, or Conte will revolt!

Levy will back down when the figures start to rise. He has always done this, even when Mourinho came, we bought Doherty and Vinicius, because our bank (Levy) pointed the finger.

I was in the camp of giving each player a clean slate to see what Conte could do with them. But it's clear already he doesn't think he can help some of these players.

Time to back him. Properly.

Yeah, this sounds very much like there are a number of players, even tho committed, that just aren’t good enough. As we have known for a while. Does seem Conte is surprised by the number of below average players tho, best he finds out now rather then later.

I’d like to apologize to Jose and Nuno. I was sure some underperformers could be fixed by better coaching, but I was wrong. Thankful Conte has said this publicly, need better players asap.

These comments are not too dissimilar to ones made by Jose for which he was roundly criticised for….. funny that.

Although I have no problem with anything he’s said, we’ve all known for years that the state of this squad is abysmal. It’s quicker to pick players you want to stay than it would be to list the ones we need shot of.
Jose went about it totally wrong though.

First he praised the squad, saying he was 'so so happy' and that it could win the league maybe the year after.
Then he had a transfer window and said he was happy, again.
Two months into the season he threw players under the bus, even players who didn't really deserve it.

They do now though.

The good thing is, Conte has seen it very very early into his tenure. We may be lucky that he came now and not the summer because he would have had to settle with some of these players and he wouldn't have seen them at their very worst in preseason. Now it's clear for all to see.

I agree with everything you say.
What I meant by Levy having nowhere to hide was that every Spurs fan will know it’s all on him and look how quickly he made the change of manager after the toxic atmosphere during and after the United game.
I honestly don’t know where the club would go if the Conte reign falls to pieces. It’s a frightening thought and I think Levy and Lewis know that.

Absolutely right. Conte doesn't need Spurs, Spurs need Conte. He has no reason to sugar coat the state of the team, or tiptoe around the players. This is the watershed moment for the club. Either we back him and become a genuine top European club, or we don't and he walks. If he walks then we've no chance of another top manager, they know if we haven't backed Conte, we wont back anyone.

Levy has to realise that if he reneges on his (presumed) promise to spend and Conte is livid, where do we go from there? Even Potter didn't want to work with him. We'll be trying to hire guys like Fonseca where the best we can hope for is some end-to-end games and a 6th place finish. It's a big window coming up for us.

Agree from an observers perspective, but the problem is I’m just not sure he really gives a fuck.

This is the shake up the club has needed for the last three years. Now we have an elite manager he has to be backed. All we can do is wait until January and the proof will be in the pudding then.

Stranger things have happened in football.
Yes but I think that's mostly because they step in the door and realise they won't get what was promised. For example, Gattuso wanted Mendes' clients and Fiorentina didn't want those players.

We have to believe with Paratici here, they would have spoken at length about which players he needs. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Paratici got on the phone immediately to tell some players Conte was coming and wanted them.

How so?

Brilliant if you ask me. He's saying it exactly how it is.

Levy let this squad rot and then sprinkle in some shoddy recruiting and we've been left with a mess.

Conte needs backed properly...like he said, he's not a magician.

Poch said we needed a painful rebuild and Levy ignored it.

Its Levy's pain now...as there's no hiding place.

The squad is fucking poor and Kane, Son can continue to carry it.

Time to make up for some very poor positions Daniel.
Bang on mate.

Its a win win re those comments by Conte really.

What we need to do is aggressively ship out a large number of players and replace them with ones Conte wants and FAST. If that happens then results should come with Conte in charge.

IF it doesn't then Conte will walk, he has nothing to prove and we will all once and for all know that the buck stops with Levy. But tbh I think we will back him as well as we possibly can, the questions will be:
1) Can we find buyers for the crock of shit we need to shift and if so how quickly? (easier said than done)
2) How good is Paratici's recruitment. It was good overall but a tad hit and miss at times at Juve and so far for us its also been hit and miss. If by the end of next summer we have signed say 10 new players as in January+summer then we need minimum 50% of them to be Romero standard, ideally higher. If 50% or more are Gollini's and Gil's then Conte won't get a tune out of them and will walk and we will be utterly utterly fucked.

But I really think as Conte said when he joined, he and we need to be a bit patient.

At least Conte now clearly knows the players who are good enough and those who aren't.

For me realistically I would do the following if I was Conte/Paratici:

Goalkeepers:
Lloris - KEEP (try to extend contract for at least 1 more season, if not then buy 2 top class GK's)
Gollini – SELL - Don't take up option to purchase on evidence so far

Defenders:
Emerson - KEEP
Doherty - SELL!!

Romero - KEEP
Dier - KEEP (ok player and good attitude to have around but shouldn't be a starter)
Tanganga - KEEP (as homegrown future prospect to play in cup games)
Davies - KEEP (can do a job as LCB in the 3-4-3 but again shouldn't be a starter)

Sanchez - SELL
Rodon - SELL

Reguillion - KEEP (needs to improve however)
Sessengon - SELL (possibly a bit harsh as could still have potential but if we need quick success with Conte then wing-back positions are key and Sess hasn't shown enough so far)

Midfielders:
PEH - KEEP (for his attitude and as he's an ok player but not good enough to start every week)
Skipp - KEEP (for his attitude and as he's young, but not good enough for first XI)
Lo Celso - KEEP (I still think there is a player there...)
Sarr - KEEP (hopefully he turns out to be fairly close to being ready for first XI)

Dele - SELL
Ndombele - SELL
Winks - SELL

Son – KEEP
Gil - KEEP (young prospect but needs to improve as has been poor so far)
Lucas – KEEP (as squad player)

Bergwijn - SELL

Strikers:
Kane - KEEP
Scarlett - KEEP (loan out)

Sell : approx. 8 players over next 2 windows if possible or as close to this as we can.
Buy : approx. 10 players over next 2 windows if possible or as close to this as we can.

  • 1x GK
  • 1x top class RWB to challenge Emerson
  • 1x top class LWB to challenge Reguillion
  • 2x top class CB’s
  • 2x top class CM’s
  • 2x top class AM’s/WF’s
  • 1x Back-up striker
That may seem like a lot of in’s and out’s but in Conte’s first summer at Juve he signed 10 players under Paratici and I’m asking for this over 2 windows. They don’t have to even all be huge names big money signings just clever signings, top pro’s that Conte can trust and splash the cash in a few of the key positions.

This or something along these lines basically HAS to happen between now and start of next season for us to be competitive and for Conte to still want to be in charge.

Game on.

COYS.

I’m convinced he thinks this squad is top 4 quality and has simply been mismanaged and under coached. I bet he’ll think that getting Conte in will “unlock their potential” and won’t require too much squad surgery.
