Surely he signs a 1 year contract extension though?

Youd have to think that any potential signings would not want him pissing off within a year of them being there.

Surely about a week after the window shuts we have to be triggering the extra year, we can’t be in a position where we’re giving a man £200m+ To shape a club only to leave for free in a year

Was there any real danger, after the season finished, that he was gonna walk? Appreciate that he would've if he wasn't backed this summer but was there any real chance of that happening?

Difficult to say. Journalists will always push the story more to the will he/won't he side for obvious reasons, but I think there would have been more jeopardy if we'd not qualified for the CL. Once we'd done that, and given everything else - stadium, training facilities, £150m spending money, Son/Kane/Kulu - it would have been difficult to imagine how much better the situation could have been for Conte, given what he faced when he arrived. If he'd walked after that I think we'd have been justified in wondering what it would have taken to persuade him.

Anyway, doesn't matter now. Exciting times.

I hope he can get his wife and daughter to move to London. It must really hurt to leave your family. I love the guy, I’m so glad he’s staying.

Well this seems like good news, staying is one thing. Signing a longer contract is another. All year people are going to say he's leaving at the end of the season...

Hopefully we have a strong summer and they activate that extension with his approval (if ive got that right.)

You have to remember that you'll never get long term commitment from Conte, he prefers to have that leverage so that the club don't get complacent or stop sharing his ambition.

As anticipated we have a good season, he will be willing to activate. But that is when we will use that summer to also discuss a new contract, and he hopefully signs. We will have contingency plans, which he will know.

The club are also going to want to be careful as he has a very very high salary by all accounts. I doubt we'd ever see him getting 4-5 years at that rate.

Like you say though I'd love to see the option activated after some strong transfer activity.

Oh yeah that will definitely be the next narrative. Simon Jordan called it midweek.

We’ll have to agree to disagree! ?
I personally would love him to sign a long term deal. It would get the media off our back, players like Kane would probably commit their long term future to the club knowing he’s staying, if anything I believe it would have a massive effect throughout our club.
[From the ITK thread] I think there can be a positive to Conte not committing long term, and that is to keep a sense of urgency at the club. Players might feel that things need to happen in this coming season, or there might not be another chance. Injecting another 5% of focus could be the difference between a couple of league positions, or a semi-final and a cup win.

get all his targets in then fuck him off for fat sam :ROFLMAO:

seriously though, he's the best thing that's happened to us for years, hope he commits long term. surely levy et al can finally see the positive wheel that's success on the pitch driving unlimited success off it.

I know all the journos are chiming in now regarding this meeting, but I've never been on any doubt as long as he was backed. You don't do what he did in January, or spend months talking about who you want in and out if you aren't intending to stay. Imo he was always intending to stay on as long as the backing was there, which we've now proved to him that it is.

Like I said we'll have to agree to disagree, I think Conte staying long term gives us a sorely needed stability we've lacked for a long time, he stays I can see Kane staying (and others), we can attract higher profile players, the media won't have their Conte leaving story every week, maybe they'll actually take us seriously?! He's one of the best managers in the world, we need to keep him, the knock on effect throughout the club alone is huge. Besides I'm tired of going into work every Monday morning having to explain, that ' no he's not leaving, no Kane won't be going to either City club and no Daniel has actually been known to get the odd round in!' It's tiresome!

There are of course, upsides to both scenarios. Though the most recent example of a manager who was settled at the club - Poch - suggests we can be prone to sloth, and failure to keep up with change.

Anyway, whatever happens, it promises to be fun!
