Agree with this, do we never learn? Selling Carrick and Berbatov shoved us back a season each time. They would be great players but we need to add them to the likes of Bale and VDV not swap them. Also there is no guarantee that they would settle.

Berbaslut wanted to go Levy had no choice there. Carrick went along sort of unnoticed and I feel it was down to the manager to step in and say how valuable he was. Maybe the manager missed the trick too but seeing how Hudd has stepped up, I'm not to broken up about it.
The way Man City has come in with big fees and wages, every club has to cry broke as every player and their agent must look at what other players have been sold for and think thats what they should command

Carrick deal was robbery. He is hated at United, I work with a few season ticket holders. Looked good in our side for a while back then, but has been increasingly left behind as the game has continued to speed up.

Yes both players wanted to leave and we got good deals for them (and probably didn't have a choice in the matter). But we did suffer after losing them. We had finished 5th 2 seasons in a row before selling Carrick, after we sold him we dropped to midtable. After selling Berba we looked like getting relegated.
From all reports I've read Bale is happy, we don't need to sell him. We need to build on the players we have and get CL again and hopefully push for a title challenge. We wont be able to do that if we keep selling our best players.

I'm not sure that Carrick wanted to leave. Allegedly Levy wouldn't open negotiations for a contract extension and this then fuelled his move to Utd. I have never heard one comment from Carrick to say he wanted to leave.

Yes but couldn't we get Diarra for £8-10m anyway? Selling off a few players (Keane, Dos Santos, O Harra and a few others) would give us the money to try and get a decent striker. We could then keep arguably our best player.

Not sure about the credibility of the foreign (Danish?) site, but surely we all know that anything that comes off caughtoffside.com is a steaming pile of bollocks now, chaps? CO.com is on the same level as TribalFootball - they both just make things up, day in day out.

As a seasoned-with-salt window watcher, I find tribalfootball much improved. These days they usually quote the source of their story, often foreign press, so it's easier to judge the credibility.

caughtoffside on the other hand seemed determined to preserve their unblemished record of never having got anything right. As there is 0% chance of Bale leaving in January, they'll just drag the same story out in May.

Fist off, this sort of deal would never happen. 4 players involved in 1 transfer just doesn't happen at this level.

Secondly, Bale cannot be sold at any price. Simple as that.

I'd take it in a heartbeat. Bale is good but we need more and a top class CF a very good CM plus a lot of cash for another couple of players would be a triffic deal

There will be some serious attempts to get him in the summer if we do not make the CL next year; and that's when we'll have to cash in if silly money is offered; say 60 million as reported a few days ago.

I'm not an expert on publicly traded companies and their shareholder's rights. But it could be that a bid like that would mean that we might have to sell at the price. Maybe not, but this could have a bearing no matter what's best for the club and Bale.

I'm no expert on that type of shite either but players control their futures these days so as long as Bale is happy here we don't need to sell him regardless of the offer

I don't think he's in any rush to leave but things change fast in football so time will tell

If Levy does want to sell to the Quatari's (IF) then I doubt selling one of our best players will happen.

An argument could be made to the contrary. The Qataris aren't going to buy based on one player....so sell to them and sale Bale and take an extra 40 million into retirement.

Would cost us a fortune in player wages. Bale is on probably summat like 60k, they'll all be on more than that.

Stupid journalism again.
