I did love it when he pointed out the opportunity of a pass Dembele had by saying, "and then you've got this...that's Gareth Bale."

He's right about the positioning of Spurs, and Arsenal's passing, but it really does make a huge difference having Lloris tearing out to clean up. If it's Friedel then the player has a one on one opportunity. Lloris may not clear but it gives a few seconds for the defenders to get back - Walker and BAE are particularly speedy and the others aren't slow. Arsenal didn't succeed because their possession was too far out for the little through pass, same as Spurs initially. When the angles were there, the pass was too heavy.

Arsenal's defending was awful. You could see the angles building from the TV camera view. Even in the second half when Defoe played Sigurdsson in, a better 2nd touch and he can shoot.

That's why we shouldn't sell BAE just yet...he does make the silly mistakes but in my personal opinion he is one of the best LB we had and need.
Walker is still young and did very well against Arsenal.
I am very proud of my team...

He really is a knowledgable guy, although I agree that he misses the point that Lloris' speed off his line makes our defending risky at times but not suicidal. I would love to have him as a defensive coach though, I think e could bring something to the table.

Yes. He can give us a perspective of someone who has played at the top level in title winning defences

Thanks for putting that up. Those of us living in France don't get the review of the game afterwards, so it's good to find it on here. Have soem rep! (y)

What an incredibly educated pundit.

The difference between Neville and other pundits is he is honest, he doesn't pull punches, even for his beloved Man U. Most other pundits are sanitised and don't want to upset their friends so actually so very little or just come out with cliches.

Neville talks from a wealth of winning experience and is a breath of fresh air.

so can you please split out for me the title winning perspective bits from the bits that a non title winning player/coach/ supporter could see just so I understand the difference

How can he of missed the point when he mentions it?

The guy with him makes that very point and Neville says he is a sweeper keeper but that if the ball is played correctly Lloris would not be able to get there.

Good piece , clearly put . However the overall figures for our two 'suicidal' defences is that we are two of the meanest .

There are advantages to playing the high line and it is a calculated risk which pays off for both teams....mostly

When you listen to him, you begin to understand how a player with a clearly limited amount of ability could become an international performer at the highest level.

Fergie himself said that at every stage throughout his development Gary Neville was always the weakest technically, however by the end of each term he became the best. He should be an inspiration for all young players learning their trade
