seems like GN has a lot of time for Poch/ the mentality he is trying to instill and the general direction the club is going.
He also seems to understand the importance and limitations of "net spend" which is appreciated, particularly with SC having more than its fair share who don't believe it is an issue.

I think wages are the real issue.

We beat Chelsea and Arsenal last season, and already City now. They're better teams than us and we have no right to routinely beat them. That wasn't our problem last season and it won't be our problem this season.

We need to stop throwing points away against teams like Stoke and Leicester. Those are the games where we prove our mettle.
I think it will still be a problem, we haven't beaten Chelsea away for 25 years, we've won away to Arsenal once in 17 years.
We haven't beaten Liverpool for a while. We just got our first win of the season not long ago. I prefer to downplay expectations a bit.
To me Poch is doing a good job not a great job.

It is quite refreshing to see some positive press and some plaudits come our club's way. Seems even here in America every time I proudly announce I'm a Spurs fan I get, "Who?!" or "Oh, I'm sorry!" or "hahahahahaha" even from some Liverpool git in Fantasy (American) football.

Hard work pays off. End of. The players constantly talk about how hard Poch and the staff makes them work, and now they have smiles on their faces. It must be really exciting for the players to see their hard work translate into success and quite impressionable on our young players.

I just hope that Poch and his staff are doing the work needed on the film side of things, too. I have seen a couple of videos where the youth have had to stand in front of their teammates and talk about tactics or coaches are teaching the youth, but I really hope in the senior team they are studying the film, trying to iron out mistakes, trying to reinforce the good things, trying to perfect the things that are helping us win. We have the hard work and fitness, we just need more match and tactical acumen and that "Sixth sense" of knowing your teammates, where they are both to defend well and to score great goals.

I was watching the league yesterday (a pile of shit I know) and one of the cast screamed "come on Tottenham" while they were watching "soccer".

One thing that pisses me off about pundits. Is that they disregard us as a top club because our squad is poor yet we still manage to finish 5th consistently and even the season we finished 6th, we still finished above Man Yoo

It seems the real reason we have been disregarded by pundits is because we have been poor at beating the top teams however against the rest of the league we have been good and better than some of the big teams

I think it's because we generally balance the books.

I simply think it is because we have a young, unproven squad without long-term big names. The only three players that consistently get praise are Lloris, Vertonghen, and Alderweireld (and that's stretching it). Kane gets plaudits, yes, but he is still being doubted as a one-season wonder. Our players need to kick on.

Gary Neville is right in many ways but also wrong in many others. The way we have conducted our business For quite some time has been admirable and not a shambles as he made out. Yes the Bale replacements didn't all work out but 3 of them did to differing degrees and they now make up a key part of our attack. His stating that the guys we sold you couldn't get rid of fast enough is actually also naive as neglects the fact they were purchased to play in a different play style which was not about the exertion of pressure. I'm not saying that was the right way for us to play but no-one could have really predicted just how small an impact Soldado and Paulinho would make.

His points about pressure and working harder than the other team are correct but I totally refute his statements that we lack quality, as I would confidently argue in terms of attacking strength there isn't too much between us and Utd, yet they have spent 4 times as much on their front four.

This season will be about the small margins and the last couple of performances in particular have shown that we now look like a team with a game plan. Let's wait and see where that takes us

I like the general gist of your post because as much as I like Neville - he's the best ex-footballer pundit by a mile - he can also talk some shite at times too. But I think he has a point about quality in relation to the big four. I don't think we have close to Utd's quality anywhere but CB.

I obviously disagree with you. I think Lloris is better than De Gea, our CBs are better and both our fullbacks and attacking players are very evenly matched. I think the real difference is in CM where they have lots of experience and ability, whereas we only have raw potential. Arsenal, Chelsea and City have more in attack than us but outside a front 4 of Mata, Rooney, Martial and Memphis Utd have no one, where as we have a talented front four of Kane, Eriksen, Lamela and Son with N'Jie, Pritchard, Chadli

Because despite the effort, they didn't have the quality in their squads. Outrunning your opponent is always a positive, especially if it's on a consistent basis.

I am not so sure it's always a positive, having no possession and running a marathon around the pitch, will not win many points. I know my example is extreme, but it does prove that a balance is needed, and it's probably true in my opinion, if youdominate possession you will usually run less than the opposition.

It's good to see the team fighting hard and pressurising the opposition when we don't have that ball. It's clearly something we were not very good at.

Darmian looks to be a real beast, though. I would take him in a heart beat.

I'm not angered at him at all. I thought it was a refreshing piece with some holes. I get kind of annoyed when people stick so massively to their agendas that they choose to overlook the holes but then point them out when it suits. But that's life. Just amazes me how people don't question things at all sometimes

I actually agree, I don't know why he didn't just put up a squad list with people like Chirices and Capoue in. It would've highlighted his point far better, particularly to illustrate the amount of players Poch has got rid of.

Which should genuinely be applauded.
