We’ve finished outside Europe. We’ve sold our best player. We’ve got an unproven manager (who I like because at least the football will be fun). We’ve signed unproven inexperienced players (bar one). We’ve got shortages in the squad. We’re showing less ambition that most clubs around us.
but apart from that

Yeah I'm not defending Levy or the club - I agree we should be spending bigger on someone proven.

Just saying that if that's not the path we're going down and we're looking for a cheaper, younger option, then I think this is an interesting punt.

Given our position in the food-chain I'd prefer we try for players that are a bit risky but have the potential to become world-beaters (similar to what we've done with VdV) rather than picking safe options with lower upside. I think that approach is the only way we'll keep pace with the clubs that are willing to spend much more than us, but it does require excellent scouting so fingers crossed our guys know what they're doing.
where the ITK thread gone...

Think we are in the sell before we buy part of the window again.

If that's the explanation being offered, it's not convincing. We recently sold our all-time leading goal scorer for £100 million.

Clearing out fringe players from the wage bill should not hinder our capacity to acquire another forward player.

The squad is bloated and needs trimming. Look at what happened at Chelsea under Potter when they had a stupid sized squad, you can't train/coach that big a squad effectively.

Yeah they’ve really learnt that lesson!!….

A new forward should not be dependent on outgoings.

I understand your point, especially when discussing the defence. It's true that we might need to make room by offloading a player or two to bring in someone new. However, I'm not convinced by the same argument when it comes to our attacking choices. We recently parted ways with one of our most legendary forwards. It's imperative that we secure an additional option in that position. There should be no room for excuses.

Don't forget we have already signed a forward, so if you're purely looking at numbers (taking the status of the player out the equation), we have a bigger squad overall now than pre-window and it was bloated then!

Well we just finished 8th and have sold our best player so there is certainly an argument to be made considering the drop off in goal records from Kane to Richy
We have had 1 bad season. After 1 good season.

In terms of shortages in the squad, we have 1 at LCB, and possibly a back up striker.

We have too many full backs, and too many midfielders. Do we have the quality of player we need, the jury is out. Only time will tell.

However, man utd have spent 170m this window and looked a lot worse than we did. It's too early to say we are sliding into anything.

Last season was a joke, we finished 8th with a manager who it felt was sabotaging us.

I assumed Solomon was replacing Lucas Moura.

I was meaning Veliz! ;)

We'll have to wait and see if he's included in the active squad for this season, or whether he's considered one for the future. Nonetheless, I still feel that we should pursue an additional forward option, possibly a winger.

I hope we're not banking on selling our deadwood to facilitate this.

Is he one of the most exciting prospects in Europe? Genuine question because I haven't seen him play except for YouTube clips, and I doubt hardly anyone on here despite screaming for this to get done are any different.

I'd much rather a player with more of a sample size personally even if it costs more. So many players have break out seasons only to fade into journeymen, and €30 mil is too much of a gamble on a fairly unknown quantity imo.
I agree on the sample size, a player or rather striker with a more proven track record would be ideal but that’s probably going to cost a fortune, if they would even come. And our dear leader would have to sanction such a fee, which i’m somewhat dubious he would/will.

Lots of context , some of which you missed to suit your argument to be fair.

This isnt a thread for the big picture but in terms of strikers I dont think people who want Kane replaced are being outlandish and they can certainly make an argument considering Kane's contribution that mid table beckons.

It's all about opinions I guess as I'd like to get someone like Orban ( a young up and coming striker) and go all out for a winger who can play either flank and beat a man but that looks unlikely too.
