Transfer notebook: Tottenham eye Juventus defender Gleison Bremer

New Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou could bolster backline with Brazilian

Tottenham are watching Gleison Bremer’s situation at Juventus as they assess centre-back targets to bolster Ange Postecoglou’s backlinethis summer.

Bremer, 26, has been on Spurs’ radar since playing at Torino before moving to Juve a year ago, where he has impressed during a season of turmoil during which they were docked points and finished seventh in Serie A.

The Brazil international has other admirers in the Premier League who are waiting to see if he will be made available after just one season at Juventus. There are expected to be outgoings at the club and his availability could rest on whether others are offloaded first, with sources not expecting approaches until late in the window.

Spurs have been looking at centre-backs and, as reported by the Telegraph Sport, have shown interest in Manchester United captain Harry Maguire, who has lost his regular starting place under Erik Ten Hag. They have also been linked with Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.

In the centre-back position, new manager Postecoglou has Clément Lenglet returning to Barcelona after his season-long loan last season, while Davinson Sánchez could leave the club for the right price.

I wondered how long it would take for this to resurface. Leandro Damião, here we go.......again and again and again.

Realistically can’t see this happening. Juve would want a profit and they spent 45 mil on him last summer. Would love it to happen but it would be the most surprising transfer of the summer if it did

Not sure he's what we need. Good defender no doubt, but a lot of the critism levelled against him last summer was that he was terrible with the ball at his feet, particularly progressive passing. That may not have been as big an issue under Conte, but it doesn't fit with what Ange will be looking for.

All very fair points, but christ is he a good defender. I honestly don’t think there’s many better front foot aggressive defenders out there than him.

Send him out to ‘man mark’ an elite striker, and you can be sure that striker won’t get a sniff.

However, his progressive passing is quite poor. But I think if asked, he could actually prove to be a quite impressive progressive carrier of the ball.

All in all I must admit I just don’t think he quite suits Ange enough, but I really do love him as a defender.

Edit: Pretty sure he’s another CAA Base client though

This may make sure with some of the ITK we saw…older and more experienced (yes I KNOW 26 isn’t old and certainly not to me!), younger Tapsoba/Tosin types.

Funny how last year, SC would have been cheering for a transfer like this. But now, most seem against it. Largely due to the change in tactics, I assume.

For that matter, I have no idea if he had a good season at Juve or not?

Isn't he another super aggressive type? And right footed. Basically a similar profile to Romero rather than someone that would complement him on the left.

Made a lot more sense to buy him when we were playing a back 3, surely.

Mentioned again in the Telegraph article re: Maddison. Also makes sense if Fabio is still involved albeit in a consultancy role…

‘As reported by Telegraph Sport last week, Tottenham are also considering a bid for Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer’.

This might make the Bremer news make a bit more sense.

Still can’t see it though tbh.

We clearly want a CAA Base first 11.

They already represent double figures of players at various ages at the club.

Guessing transfermarkt doesn't show under 18s.. didn't look to see if there was any players on loan on the list or if we're counting CAA Base and CAA Stellar as the same?

I see Doug Livermore is one of their registered intermediaries. Are there other links at a director level etc. ?
