Quick one - having a bit of banter at work with 2 liverpool fans and was wondering if anyone could point me to a list (link or whatever) that ranks clubs in terms of the global fanbase??

I know we are up there quite high-ish but I just got laughed at to no end by saying that we might be third or forth behind ManYoo and Liverpool in terms of english clubs...

Scooby Stamp and General good karma for any help!

Someone posted one a while back.

1st Utd
2nd Liverpool

then a big gap to

3rd: Arsenal
4th Spurs

then another big gap to

5th Chelsea? Or maybe Everton, maybe even Villa

I would be shocked if we weren't 5th behind Chelsea now as in the States they are pretty popular since they have been winning for a while now. Still 5th with no major trophies and no Champions League is pretty darn good.

When Wenger came in and bought african players their stock rose among many south africans . when money bags chelsea bought their contingent of players from africa they too became popular, prior to that in SA it was man/u and pool (tied) and then spurs.

were 5th (100k) behind utd (600k), lpool (400k), ars (300k), chelsea (200k). dunno if these numbers are a good indication of what the real numbers are.. villa, city and everton have 50k btw..

Put it this way, there's no Liverpool supporters club in Los Angeles whereas ours one is 250 strong and growing

I've seen figures bandied about showing Man Ure with 300 million fan base world wide, Arse anal and the bin dippers around 150 and Chelski 125. Spurs apparently have a worldwide fan base of 100 million
Real Madrid and Barcelona both have some 50 million less than Man Ure, basically because of the Asian market where Man Ure are still so popular from the David Beckham days.

it's very difficult to get any accurate info

it relies usually on fairly small surveys, ancillary evidence like computer game/football fantasy players etc

Talking about global fans I was in the pub a few weeks ago watching the United game and a Chelsea fan was in there. When Gudjohnsson came on in the second half he asked me 'Is he any good?' I just looked at him and said, 'you should know, he played for Chelsea for years'. All I got was a blank look and 'I had no idea'.

Here in Norway there's a lot of Yids, but most of them are grown ups. I rarely see any kids with Spurs shirts. I went to a pub downtown Oslo for the Arsenal game, and there was about 4/5 Yids and 1/5 Arsenal. It will probably be different for each country, but overall I think it's like Fantasy football indicates:

1. Man Utd
2. Liverpool
3. Arsenal
4. Chelsea
5. Tottenham

Where were Chelsea before the Russian? They were a poor man's Millwall. Their 'global fanbase' may be bigger than ours, but it'd melt in one of my warmer farts.
