Football fans are a fickle bunch.

Liverpool fans were starting to turn on Gerrard when he told Chelsea he wanted to join them, only for a dramatic u-turn after he received death threats towards him and his wife. Now he is arguably their most loved ever player.

Rooney was up for leaving Man Utd. Was up for joining Man City. Then this happened and suddenly he signed a new contract the next day - https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...-news/wayne-rooney-dials-999-as-united-901524 - then became their record goalscorers and a club legend.

Am not saying I want death threats against Kane and his family, but if this transfer doesn't go through then people will forget about this and forgive him in the same old ways here too. "Was all just a misunderstanding, he never really wanted to go." etc etc etc. Modric quite openly said he wanted to join Chelsea whilst still a Tottenham player and then went on strike all summer to get his move, but after he scored that screamer against Liverpool in September then guess what...the fans were singing his name again.

That all being said - I just think there's a part of my respect for him that has gone forever. Wanting out of this mad house is completely understandable, but having watched him in the last couple of weeks a) talk to The Sun b) talk to a state that proactively oppresses women and LGBT people amongst others, and c) refuses to even turn up and train with his team mates despite being paid a handsome wage for doing so....well I really have to question the character of a man who does all of these things...

you are probably right, but right now I feel like if he does end up staying there is no way I would have the same admiration for him I had 6 months ago

I would honestly feel I would be less let down if it was United or Liverpool, a proper club, than these bunch of money washing ****s

Also - does Kane not realise he needs to get fit for the new season? How many times have we seen players not train properly in pre-season and then look way off the pace when the season starts? Kane himself has often looked slow and isolated when he's come back from long injury lay-offs.

Can see it now - PL record £150m+ transfer, Kane failing to score in his first few games and everyone coming for him saying he was a waste of money and that City should have signed Haaland instead.
Maybe I'm very naive, but I still can't see City paying £150m+ (and 100m for Grealish)

That's just semantics that people fret over. Son can easily play CF.

If you wanted to go by the positional aspect of a Striker (if Son isn't one), then neither is Harry, really.

Llorente is probably the only 'Striker' (e.g. Zlatan type) that we've had in the last god knows how long. Maybe Vinicius. Didn't see him enough to know what he did, really.
But who is Son’s backup? Lucas? Scarlett? However you dress it up Levy will be in for it if he tries it. And I strongly believe he’s keeping a low profile now because of the Super League and Fulough shit.

I would like to think that armed with 160 million we could find a shoe-in somewhere in World football. As good as Harry is, he hasn't cornered the market in World class quality strikers.
That would come to play in the conference league? Even with 160 million it’s not like we can go out and get Haaland or Mbappe.

I can understand Kane's desire to leave. From a fans perspective I hate it but the rational person I am understands why he thinks going to Man City is the best thing for himself.

Unfortunately for him he has a weak hand and his amateur hour agent has really fucked him over with the contract he signed given Levy all the cards until next summer at the earliest.

He must understand (and I am sure he has been told) that unless Man City meet our valuation of him he is going nowhere. Add in his agent brother gobbing off at his wedding about £160m being agreed gives Levy even more leverage.

I expect in his excitement, Charlie Kane ordered his new Lamborghini after the Neville interview.

The dealership have phoned and requested the balance, so he now has Harry locked in the basement and Man City on speed dial.
Just found this article

So Harry is the only footballer on Charlie's books. Tells me everything.

Seriously guys, calm your tits. i am sure both Harry and the club have agreed to this, IF spurs are negotiating they do not want Kane injured.
I have a hard time thinking Kane would just not show up. The club could easily give a statement if that was true. But they also do not want to make it obvious they are still negotiating price.

Lastly - I really can't see Laporte or anyone else from City's first team coming the other way. Swap deals are pretty rare, and even in the post-COVID time I don't see any of their regulars wanting to walk away from City to come to us without Kane - that's before we even talk about the fact they'd have to take a massive paycut to do so.

Hasn't the club also handled it wrong if he wasn't due in today? The negativity could have been nipped in the bud, at least till something actually happens.

Yes. All parties are guilty of giving us all nothing but complete silence and letting all this anger and frustration go all over the place with speculation, condemnation and pain and bewilderment. The club are guilty of saying nothing and Harry and his dickhead of a brother are equally guilty of doing the same. Meanwhile all the confusion is allowed to fester till someone has the guts to tell us WTF is actually happening.

This is the issue - what Kane should teach us is that we should have faith in our own talent.

I understand that we shouldn't rely on having no backup player, but I also don't feel good about signing anyone that's going to block off any chance Scarlett, or maybe even Parrott, have of getting their 'Kane chance'.

As mentioned a few pages ago, no issues with Ings stepping in to replace Kane. Best thing about Son is that he's useful and effective elsewhere.

I'd have definitely played Lucas or Lamela as CF by now though (e.g. before this summer), just to see...

Look at the difference. I'd actually be alright with Kane if he had come out with something similar. Just explain why you want to go and do it respectfully.

Don't spend time galavanting round a golf course with Gary Neville (during the season no less). Don't use your brother to leak information at a wedding (or whatever the fuck actually happened there). Don't refuse to turn up to training.

How hard can it be?

I predicted all of this around 6 years ago elsewhere on the internet and was completely ridiculed by other Spurs fans. It was after we lost one of many big cup games, maybe against Chelsea in the league cup. It was at the start of our cycle and we had Walker, Rose blah blah. We looked like we were on the verge of great things and so many just couldn't see the team not doing great things.

I said that if Poch and the club didn't sort it out and get us over the line, we would ruin the golden generation, Kane would leave Spurs having won absolutely fuck all and it would be an utter disgrace and we would all look back with bitter regret.

It's really sad that it has materialised and there are a few at Spurs who are responsible.

Every opportunity we blew just brought us closer to it. Just such a shame that we managed to lose every final and semi final that we did, Kane is partially responsible too, he never turned up for many of them. Can't believe he's got to the age of 28 and the club is still potless.

Recriminations all around really.

I just want us to get what he’s worth to us (anywhere between 150-200m) then we can rebuild and by time Kane’s Man city contract comes to an end we would hopefully have reaped the rewards from our multi purpose stadium and we’ll be loaded and dominating world football. Kane can watch and weep as we finally win the title and CL and he can sit with his hollow trophies he’s won at Man City but still not be deemed a legend by the Man City faithful.

Bale skipped training once in 2013 but the deal with RM had been pretty much done - just some last minute haggling by Levy about the payment instalments. He wasn't going to play for spurs again (in the near future), and he wasn't stirring up trouble. It meant nothing at all.

If we think Kane has some respect for the club that helped make him who he is today - and for all his disputes with Levy, he surely hasn't forgotten that it was the fans' who demanded he was promoted to the first team - then if he has gone AWOL then it is because it doesn't matter at this point.
It is a done deal.

I imagine that it is an open secret now in the football world, and that's why we are being asked ridiculous prices for average players. And deals that were in the bag are now needing to be be spiced up a bit more.

Doesn't it take twenty four hours for a covid test to be returned? That would make Wednesday more likely for his first day back?

NHS ones sure. But pay £100 (like you would at Heathrow to fly on holiday) and you get it back from the lab direct within hours. I’m sure Harry/Spurs are capable of dropping the cash required for a quick test.

I can’t see Harry doing a drive-thru NHS PCR at his local Tesco car park.

Why would you have a hard time thinking he wouldnt show up? It fits with the Neville interview and him telling his england team mates that he wouldnt train. This is just another tactic and we should expect a few more in the coming weeks.

I don’t know of any other club that would give a second’s thought to not having a traditional striker in their team for fear that it might block the path of a couple of teenagers. Definitely not a club with any sort of aspiration to be among the elite. We’re short up front, even if Kane stays. It’s a tough spot to fill but the answer isn’t to not fill it.

United have brought through their own forwards in recent years, and have done so in a semi regular fashion (not all have been good, though).

Problem being, I can't name the last striker we bought that was actually decent. Probably going back to pre-Liverpool Keane, Berba or Defoe, which were all some 15 years ago or so.

Like who? Seriously mate, like who? Who would you guarantee could just arrive at N17 and immediately score us the goals Harry does every season? Someone from the Dutch league, the Italian league, the German league, the Spanish league...who? Maybe someone from South America...? Africa? Who?

Remember, we're playing in the European Dustbin League now and have been drawn against the mighty Lindisfarne (I bought all their records back in the day) so I wonder which shit-hot striker wouldn't be able to resist that prospect, eh?

Not being funny, but we may have loads of dosh if he goes, but I don't think there's very much we could do with it right now, plus we'd be 20+ goals short this season, not to mention the fact we'd miss his amazing work-load which shouldn't be discounted either.

Sorry to be a bit 'sarky' mate, but it's been a hell of a day. :)
