Wow, surprised at all the negativity towards him. Yes he has had a tough 18 - 24 months but at the right price and wage I'd definitely consider taking him.

He is good on the ball, good in the air, gets the odd goal and also critically important especially for our fragile squad is that he is a leader!! Yes he is slow but that can be hidden within the right system by pairing him with a quick CB partner and full backs who take the responsibility for providing cover when they get turned. We really need a big character alongside Romero to guide him through games and tame his wild tendencies. A confident and secure Maguire with the full backing of his manager and with a point to prove ahead of the Euros could be that very man!

18-24 months is two seasons of football. More than enough time to show that he isn't playing well and might not again. This was the problem with Dele and there were still people begging us to keep him

With Dele I'd argue the decline was even longer as it started way before Poch left when his goals, assists and game influence numbers really started to tail off.

Coming back to Maguire, context is important. He was one of the better performers under Solksjaer and Rangnick and what changed was the arrival of Ten Haag. The personal Mykonos incident clearly took its toll as well. On the football side, Ten Haag is very specific in wanting a left footer as the LCB to ensure the natural outball is to the full back to get up the pitch. Maguire is right footed so his natural tendency is to come inside and either pass or dribble which he has clearly developed from having played a right footed LCB for years. His style clearly doesn't fit with how Ten Haag wants the position played hence the use of Luke Shaw im that position over him to keep the balance he wanted in the team. None of this makes Maguire a bad player, just means the system the coach wants to play is different. As we saw in the WC, despite not having played regularly for United he still performed very well overall and showed his quality.

Harry Maguire is a good defender I'm not sure he's got a range of abilities but he's a solid defender.
I don't know anything about what Postecoglu wants from his central defenders but if he wants that then Harry Maguire is a good option.
My 8 year old grandson keeps leaving little notes saying Harry Maguire is the goat, has done for months, I thought it was a joke but maybe he knows something we don't. 😎

A better player than his reputation suggests (it's not a surprise United have frequently been hammered without him in the team, put it that way)

United had the best PL defensive record this season with maguire not playing in the majority of their games…

He did well enough at Hull to earn a big money move to Leicester where he did well enough again to earn a stupid money move so there is obviously a player there. The issues have been mentioned though, he does what he does but has obvious weaknesses(although he won't be unique in this regard). My biggest worry though is it's been a quite a while with bad club form, possibly too long to get back to his Leicester performances.

I think he's better than the memes and Man U fans would have us believe, but still I don't see any world where signing him would make sense, especially if we're playing a high line.

My United supporting mate would laugh his tits off if we signed Maguire!

If we ship out Dier this summer or move him to reserve CB, we don’t need another hapless Charlie taking his place!

This is the kind of signing that would rid me of the slight hope and optimism I have now we have a manager in place. How slow and clumsy he is and the fact our tactics under Ange will involve a high line make this one of the dumbest possible signings. Especially when you consider the best possible partner for Romero would be someone quick who can cover behind when he presses up

Nope. He can rebuild his confidence somewhere else thanks. I suspect nobody will take him and they’ll have to loan him out because his wages are so high.

When Conte was here I thought he was a good option we should be exploring for the left centre back position, the extra cover would have helped him no end.

But in a two he is slow and clumsy. Totally ill suited to what we're about to try and achieve in terms of a style of play.
