Unfortunately the boy just isn’t very good. He can pass nicely against the crap teams however against any half decent opposition his lack of attacking and defending get shown up.

He is a jack of all trades, and average at everything. If he had come from the Dutch league then we would all be saying how just plain average he is.

His two best games for us were a 3-1 win against Real Madrid and a 4-1 win against Liverpool, so I don't think I agree with that. His role is to maintain the ball, recycle possession, control the tempo - and he shines when we set out to take the game to 'big teams'.

Deep lying playmakers don't provide killer balls, how many times do you see Modric making that final pass for the forward to finish.

A playmaker by definition is:

Sure, but Winks certainly doesn’t fit into that definition. His vision, creativity and execution is sorely lacking. His ball control and technique is only decent but certainly not special. It’s like saying Scott Parker has vision and execution.

He’s bang average at everything basically. Poch is mental for picking him over NDombele today. What a fucking twat.

Really sad how much those games stand out.

He's showing plenty of effort, but just effort isn't enough.

That said, some ain't even showing effort.

Ordinary player. Yes lots of effort but defensively poor, attacking wise offers little so he is really in that mould where he needs to be able to dictate the tempo in the middle of the pitch and he is nowhere near doing that.

Squad player at best and he has no business starting so many games for us. Between him and Sissoko there is such little technical ability and it's all huff and puff and effort. Can't wait until Ndombele and Lo Celso are permanent fixtures in the team and we can phase Winks out to the squad player he is.

I’m a huge fan of Harry Winks but he was pretty dreadful today

Finding it harder and harder to defend him but cannot understand his huge loss of form

Can a loss of confidence and being played out of position or in the wrong formation really explain that performance

Nowhere near that fantastic ball playing midfielder with a great brain, who creates space for himself, reads the game well and pops the ball round the park

He is a sub player at best.

Someone you can put on for the final 15 or so minutes and ask them to make the safe passes to keep possession to protect a lead.

He doesnt have it in his locker to be a destroyer and break up play or have the creative talent to put a forward pass in for a scoring opportunity.

If you use him from the start, he wont let you down because he rarely makes mistakes due to his safe backwards and sideways passes.

However he wont influence the game to win it for you.

Lost count of the amount of times he was receiving the ball from a defender then aimlessly smashing the ball straight to a Liverpool midfielder.

He put us under immensely needless pressure time and time again.

There is absolutely no way Winks starts for us when our best XI is available. He’s a liability.

Well said. Put us under pressure every fucking time he had the ball. I thought Winks was supposed to shine in big games? Or that was the majority of people defending him is saying at least. Because then he can receive the ball and keep it and let us play out of the pressure.

What a lot of absolute bollocks!

He was so shit against Bayern and the same now against Liverpool. The love for him has to stop. Squad player

He shines when we try to take the game to the opposition. Receiving the ball, keeping it, moving it on - we know he can do it, but when we set up like that he’s just not got any good options because we’d let ourselves get blocked in to our own third.

He’s not suited to being a defensive midfielder in a team that sits back and soaks up pressure. Starting him in games where we want to play that way is the wrong decision, absolutely - but if we’re going to show some adventure and get at the opposition, he’ll do well.

I think he's being impacted by the loss of confidence at the club more than others. He's still a young player and has never gone through this before. He needs protecting more than anything. That's partly why playing him yesterday was wrong.

I think he’s a decent enough player to have in the squad but he’s someone who needs the whole team to be playing well in order to slot in and be part of a smooth running machine. If the team is struggling and people are looking for someone to step up and drive us forward, he’s not going to be that guy.

Either way, he’s never going to to be a player that you think ‘we can’t improve on him’ when you look at a first 11.

Well you keep telling yourself that. He's not shining in anything at the moment, and havn't for a long time.

By you he should shine when we're playing lesser teams at home. Ehh no.

That's exactly where his limits come to light.

And who has shined in the last year, exactly? He’s been played out of position in a role that isn’t natural to him, in a team that’s been pretty dreadful.

And no, he doesn’t shine against teams who park the bus because he isn’t a creator. He shines against teams who press us, when we take the game to them.

When Dembele or Ndombele are on the ball if the opposition go to press them they can evade and kill you with penetration on the dribble in Dembeles case or a killer pass with Ndombele.

This is what Harry needs to add to his game, when pressed and he evades he does'nt punish the opposition at all.

He just did. Versus Liverpool. At Anfield. Bar lamela everyone was available.

That kind of sums things up right now.
