£20m at a push is still quite a lot, Kend. It's a third of the original figure. Which although still states we've invested - we've needed it.

The consensus on here was that we overachieved with what we had and now we're adding the flesh to the bones as it were.

And stemark, I don't understand your definition of "waste" - because it's ludicrous. We've invested in our future and our present. Would you rather we didn't spend our money on upcoming talent? Would you rather we didn't send out a message that we're prepared to buy youngsters and play them?

Kaboul and Boateng are ones for the future. Bale's a superstar, technically, and that's why we beat United to sign him. And I bet he's glad he made the move to us, because I don't think he would've got a look-in at OT yet. His exposure to our first team is exactly what he needed. It's not for all youngsters, but he is ready and seems to have his head switched on.

As for Bent, how you can pass judgment already (even though he's scored some important goals) is beyond me, and quite frankly typical of how a lot of Spurs fans come around to an opinion based on the short term, without the ability to see beyond the next fixture nor the last.

Yep quite right - we've added huge value to the balance sheet from our aquisitions. Kabul and Boateng may not quite have lived up their price tags but I think there's a lot more to come from them

How can Kaboul be regared as a waste of money? He got into the team when we were in a crisis and he didn't do too badly. Obviously there were the odd errors, but who in the team did not make an error? I don't seem to remember any howlers from him and he scored once or twice as well.

Anyway, we'll sell Berbs in the summer for £30m and invest it in someone Ramos has had his eye on for a while and while Utd work out what to do with their new and petulant Bulgarian, our newly harmonious Rolls Royce of a side will be gliding ominously (for everyone else) through the upper reaches of the Premier League.

You really do seem to think Berba could be easily replaced...

I don't agree. We may get very very lucky and unearth another £30 million pound player who's available for £10 million. But I'm not holding my breath.

We'd be far more likely to end up overpaying to get Kanoute back, and cursing every time Berba plays another great game for Manure...

hope for their sake they don't go down!

buy these numbers are kinda hard to get accurate, we almost never disclose how much we pay for a player.

I'll be disappointed to see him go, he's got that bit of magic in him only we as Spurs fans really know how to appreciate. But at the same time I think he is going and so I refuse to get too attached to the fellow and in the same spirit I look forward to a Ramos side where the team is the star.

I also think that while as an individual we'll probably have to wait a good few seasons before we see his like again, as a team the loss may not be so sharp and what we lose in one area we may gain in another.

We'll see.

I too am confident that Ramos will find a solution if we lose Berba, but I'd rather he didn't have to face such a challenge.

In terms of money spent, the £10.9 million on Berbatov was clearly a snip. One of the most amazing aspects of the deal is that Leverkusen's Sporting Director, Rudi Voller, was an outstanding centre-forward himself, and thought he was getting good money for Berba at that price. Unless Voller is a complete fool, which I doubt, it does show how difficult it can be to judge quite how good a player is (even when you're watching them every day in training).

Voller saw Berby as being a great player but.....very few others shared his view. Perhaps the Premiership suited Berby more than anyone thought> Clearly it was the 'making' of him but don't be too quick to off load him just yet. He appears to like WHL and CL football might not be enough to lure him to Mancville! We have to pray, anyway he he.
I do not fear for our future....with Ramos in charge....and even if Berby leaves (or is stolen lol). We are working towards a great future so we can be positive about the next few years.....even if we were equally positive about 07/08 lol. COYS!

I guess I'm just a bit more sanguine than you on this. I hope he stays, but i want to see him show he wants to stay, otherwise I won't be upset when he goes.

I agree, Kaboul was not a waste of money. It would be good if those saying that could look have looked at the bigger picture and realised that Kaboul was pushed straight into the 1st eleven as we were desperate as our defenders were all crocked.

In an ideal world we would have bought him, and nurtured him into the 1st team at the right time, with King and Woody as mentors. Then I am confident we would have seen a different Kaboul when the time was right.

The point I was trying to make is that for whatever reason these players seldom play in the first team.Bent is injured,Taarabt,Kaboul and Boateng are all inexperienced, thats why they would not be missed!

What sort of peverse logic is that?

Do you not think we should buy young, upcoming, talented, wanted players? Sorry - I don't get your point. You're saying they don't contribute now, so therefore there's no point having them? You're seriously saying that? :?

My Christ I hope you don't run any sort of company with what seems like a lack of vision beyond your nose!

He's got a point, in a sense, when it comes to Kaboul and Boateng. As their transfer fee suggests that they should be able to contribute NOW, but clearly they're not.... however, when they both become superstars in 2 years time and United/Chelski are bidding £15m+ for them, Levy will be laughing ;)

i think your missing his point, he's not saying they're a total waste of money he means they were not what we needed last summer. We needed an experienced CB and an experienced CM. We got two inexperienced ones instead. If we got say distin and petrov in instead we'd have had a better season without doubt!

We do need to keep buying for the future for sure, but experienced heads are also needed

Bent, kaboul and boateng are massisvely overpriced. To spend 14mill on kaboul and boateng is terrible in my opinion. People may say they are talent for the future ( i think they both look very average), but i would expect a lot more for £14mill
