Lewis Holtby has suffered a suspected collar bone fracture yesterday playing in a friendly in Dubai.

Apparently, Holtby was screaming with pain, after a bad collision with Eintracht Frankfurt's Martin Lanig in the 78th minute. Hamburg were playing Eintracht Frankfurt, as part of a friendly game in their training camp in Dubai on Thursday.

Holtby was taken to hospital in a wheel chair & the initial diagnosis suggest he broke his collar bone & could be out of action for 3 months.

Hamburg are 14th in Bundesliga & are 2 points above relegation zone - so they really needed him fit.

I guess, this will put Holtby permanent deal on hold.

Poor bloke. Sounds painful.

3 months isn't an ACL or broken leg style recovery time though. I reckon they'll still buy him.

That is terrible news for Hamburg fans. About the last thing they needed to happen.

We can loan them 1 of about 25 others to assist in their fight against relegation!

Confirmed on the club's German site, not yet on the English one otherwise would post. Surgery will be today, and then an expected ten weeks out.

Feel sorry for him. As much as I'd love to see him back in a Spurs shirt, I'd imagine it would only be as a squad (Europa or Cup comps) player. If he's happier moving to Hamburg and getting certain first team football we should let him.

The guy is built to play for poch, his nature talent for pressing the ball and running pass the ball carrier is much needed.

Hopefully we get him back.

If Poch thought this I would of thought he wouldn't of let him go on loan, I think he's played his last game for us. I broke my collar bone in school and yes it's horrendously painful.

I wasn't his biggest fan in terms of playing because all the while he was with us we played a different game.
HOWEVER I wonder now if he'd fit in more as one of the two between defence and midfield?
Is he any worse than mason or Bentaleb?

You've phrased that like you think Mason/Bentaleb are rubbish?

I'm either friggin hard or really lucky. I broke my collar bone attempting a catch during a game of cricket. Carried on playing for about half an hour. I really ached badly but the pain was no worse than watching some Tottenham performances from the past!!

Holtby should make a full recovery and it's not a leg break which is obviously far more serious for a footballer

Hopefully the permanent deal still goes through

I'm not so sure that's how it was mate? I think it was more a case of Poch wanting to evaluate everybody, but Holtby, after being out on loan last season, wanted to have as much playing time as possible. Obviously Poch couldn't guarantee that because he wanted to fully evaluate the squad, which is fair enough, and Holtby had the offer of regular football at Hamburg, which he understandably accepted.

I reckon Poch would appreciate Holtby as a player, and I think he could mould a very decent player out of him. The thing is, is he even still a Spurs player ? We could well be chatting about something totally irrelevant :wacky:

Its all ifs and buts, the impression I got of Lewis was that he was very happy at Tottenham. If indeed Poch did rate him and wanted to evaluate him they would of had that conversation somrthign like "if your good enough you will play" or something along those lines. Surely Holtby would have jumped at the chance to prove himself.

I will be honest I never seen the amazing talent others did in Holtby, he was one of the many midfileders we have who doesnt seem to have a defined role or really excel in any one department. I think its certainly a hang over from last seasons clusterfuck of managers and systems.

See, I'm sure I read that Poch and Holtby did have a chat, Holtby was informed about the offer from Hamburg & the promise of regular football, then the rest is history. I can only apologise if I'm wrong..

I think his best position is probably as 1 of the deep-lying 2, and so does he. He just needs a consistent run in that position & I'm sure he'd grow as a player. He has a good eye for a pass, the ability to pull off that pass, and can put away the odd chance if it arises. He seems too eager to do everything, to please everyone. It's as though he's on a mission to cover every blade of grass, as if to get himself noticed more, especially by the supporters.

If a manager (Poch) could just get inside his head, tell him to just calm down, relax, , work when there's work to do, move when it's smart to move, pass when it's right to pass. There's definitely a player in there, in my opinion, it's just getting the consistency (in manager & position) to allow that player to come out.
