Tottenham Hotspur have long had problems with their homegrown numbers but how do they look in this latest transfer window?

Being in the England team doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a homegrown player."Tottenham Hotspur have long had problems with their homegrown numbers"
Have we?
Despite having most of the England squad for the last god knows how many years?

Dier isn’t homegrown but Foyth will be
Yes you’re right, I was going off a tweet someone took (wrongly) from the article.Foyth won't.
He turned 21 during his 3rd season, so will miss out
1 of those players isn't home grown, and we have lost Walker and Trippier as well.
If Rose goes, and a question mark over Winks... We are looking thin.
Yes we have. Last season we had to move on Wanayama because there wasn't a squad place left for him. we were on 17, Vorm and Vertonghen leaving makes 15, so right now we can make two non homegrown signings without having to sell."Tottenham Hotspur have long had problems with their homegrown numbers"

The quote was "long have" though, not "now have"
Winks, Dele, Rose, Kane in recent types, and the likes of Townsend and Walker to add to that a few years ago.
True.
but with 3 non home grown keepers we have had issues.
In Europe we had to leave players out due to Davies not being home grown

I think calling it a homegrown number problem is a bit misleading, our problem is actually a high number of non-homegrown players. For the CL we tend to have bigger issues as Davies, bizarrely, is also not listed as home grown.
This is purely technical, not about or ability of producing 'english' talent or whatever.
Yes, and we bought in Vorm after Lloris' injury and in January we bought in two non-hg players, taking our number to 18. We then had to remove one from the squad, which was Wanyama. He obviously was past it, but he was also unregistered because we went over.Yeah, it's definitely making a mountain of it. People obsess about the 3 non-HG goalkeepers like we're leaving players out of the squad.
Hmm. We definitely didn't move on Wanyama because of HG issues - it was because he was completely finished.
For the start of last season, we registered 15 Non-HG players. We had space for 2 others we didn't even have. Hence, again, why the "3 goalkeepers" thing is hyperbolic.

As originally mentioned: "have long had problems with their homegrown numbers" - when did we actually have any problems? Not last season. The season before we ever registered Nkoudou when Poch blatantly didn't want to actually use him.

I'm still looking forward to when a welsh PL team finally qualifies for Europe and they are only able to list, like, 3 players as home grown (Cardiff currently have only one player that would count as h/g by European rules). How Ben Davies counts as Welsh is just incredibly unfair for a million reasons.I guess it depends on how you look at it if there is an issue or not.
For me it's been an issue for a while (or maybe a concern?)
We left Lamela and Jansen out of the European squad. Granted one was poor, and the other injured or getting back from injury, but we did leave players out

I'm not complaining it's just absurd. If Cardiff or Swansea (like they did a few seasons back) .or any Welsh side in the English pyramid for that matter, qualify for Europe they are classified by UEFA as English teams, and earn points towards England's coefficient, despite being affiliated to the FA of Wales. Those clubs are not allowed to compete in any Welsh Competitions.
And we can't complain we knew his eligibility before he was signed.
Possible squad
Home Grown
- Ben Davies
- Harry Kane
- Dele Alli
- Harry Winks
- Japhet Tanganga
Non Homegrown
- Hugo Lloris
- Erik Lamela
- Toby Alderweireld
- Son Heung-Min
- Eric Dier
- Moussa Sissoko
- Paulo Gazzaniga
- Serge Aurier
- Lucas Moura
- Davinson Sanchez
- Tanguy Ndombele
- Giovani Lo Celso
- Juan Foyth
- Steve Bergwijn
- Gedson Fernandes
Under 21's
So we have 2 spaces in the non Homegrown unless we sell more (or I missed someone)
- Ryan Sessegnon
- Oliver Skipp
Still need a 3rd keeper as well
