Yes in way you are correct.....but not always....if we sold Luka and then went and bought Eto,Llorente and Ozil would that make us look unambitiuos?

selling top players doesn't always mean your not ambitious, Man U sold Ronaldo...but they reinvested....thats the point.

But the point is that players are more likely to look upon us as a stepping stone rather than a point of destination...and, hence, not challengers. And rival teams will still look at us as a team who can be bullied out of our top players when push comes to shove.

If we sell the likes of Modric, how the Hell will we be able to ATTRACT the likes of Eto'o, LLorente and Ozil. Besides, they're fairly unrealistic anyway as we tick very few of the boxes for them. 2 main ones bing wages and regular CL.

In whom?

Why would they want to come if we are selling our best players?

Big difference with United they ARE a top Club....we are aspiring to be one.

Look i agree Luka staying is a top priorty....all i was saying is that IF we sold him and then went on to actually buy players of the calibre i mentioned, then selling luka would not be unumbitious...My point only stands up if we actually were to buy them, so saying they might not come is irrelevent to the point mate.

Selling is not always unambitious...its what you do with it or not that maybe.

Beware..."the Old Golden Savages killed their philosophers, thought bought the drought about..."Eek

Look, technically, I know what you are saying - but the fact that we sold Modric would immediately make us look less attractive to those players (even if we ever had any chance of buying them).

with modric it would be unambitious....we've building this side for quite sometime now and ripping out our heart beat wouldn't allow for progression this season IMO...

we wont get better than Modric, we need to get the striker in that we need and keep most things as they are.

I'm with Mr. Pink here, surely there comes a time when we have to say enough is enough we are not selling our best players.

We hope and aspire to be genuine title contenders, how can we do that if we keep selling our best players to our supposed rivals.

Its just a merry go round, we buy a player, they turn out to be very good, the club move forward it looks like we're nearly there and then the big boys come calling and we sell up and then justify it by saying well we can use the money to strengthen the squad, we slip back a bit and then sign a good player and the whole thing starts again. One step forward and two steps back.

Its time to say NO.

Mate your missing my point..... luka is vital and i love the guy.I don't want him to leave,.. BUT if we got...not linked GOT!! Eto, llorente, ozil etc etc would you still think selling him is unambitious...this is not a question aimed at if they would join but if they joined, however unlikely i agree it would be?

I don't mind if we sell modric, because he put in a transfer request...We get 40mil+ And sell to a team outside of the prem.

I could accept us selling modric, if we were offered a straight 80 mill.

ermmm I could.........no that's it.

When did I say I wouldn't be proud of my team and its history? I just said I'd mind. Which I fucking would, and for good reason.

I take it you wouldn't mind if we sold all our best players and went sliding back down the leagues?

I don't know about you but when I support a team I mind when it cocks up.

well said.........Am i suprised that some melon spurs fan thinks selling modric is ok?.......mmmmmmm.....no!!!

the only semi realistic circumstance where i would be slightly ok with him going is if we signed Marin, then let him go for over £40 million. Purely because although he isnt as good as mods now, I think Marin will turn out into something quite special with the right team built around him.

Marin cannot play CM so he is no replacement for Modric

This!

IMO Marin would be better then Mods in our team. He's also more creative. If we received £40 million for Mods and snapped up Marin for £20 million then it's a great bit of business.

I meant that Linker speaks the truth about it being crunch time for Tottenham....I wasn't referring to his gut instinct of Modric being sold.

Sorry I didn't make that clear first time round...Linker thinks he'll be sold, but thinks this is a massive time for Spurs and our future as a Club - thats what I mean when I said he speaks the truth.

Why can't we want to have them both in the same team?

Besides, as others have said, Marin and Mods don't play the smae role (even though Modders does play on the right, sometimes) - they are not a straight swap.

i agree with the original poster i have no problem if modders was sold. he is not the be all and end all of our team. i think Berba offered more value and i was more cut up over that sale. if we sell modric for good money and buy a player cheaper who can offer the same qualities then i am all for it. we will survive without modric.
