What's new

It's not the dog in the fight, it's the fight in the dog

We've got so much snap to us now. Not a dirty team a la the old Stoke (I'd never want that, we're Spurs FFS), but we've been lacking grit for so long.

Poch has certainly given us that, particularly with our academy players that have broken through.

It was beautifully demonstrated by Mason having to be held back the other week

But looking back, this isn't some new thing. Look at Scrappy-Doo (Mason) et al in this clip from November last year. All Hail Poch.

(On a tangent about the AV goal, Rose doesn't make those cock-ups any more, and Kaboul's not in the side to make his equally bad error).

Spurs have been to nice and take getting beat to easily for a long time.
Man U and arsenal teams in the past hated losing and generally had a bust up or a player sent off when they lost. Not saying I want us to get more players sent off, but it's defidently a sign of fight and desire to never give up.
What I like about the current team Kane benteleb and mason in patitular show a lot of fight, aren't afraid to to get stuck in and have a nasty side to their game

I wouldn't call it "nasty" to be honest. None of them are anything like Charlie Adam, or Shawcross, or Fellaini. What they are showing though is fucking passion.

I've just rewatched the clip I put in the OP, and it's feckin wonderful. I love you Tottenham.

I love how soldado says "Hey! HEY!" and gives henry the "im watching you look" I know he's struggling for goals and its looking likely that he'll never get form for us but dammit I love me some El Bob.

Rewatching that Villa clip again, a few other things:
  • Rose got totally mugged off for the goal. His progress since has been excellent (although not unexpected IMO - I know I'm in the minority there lol)
  • Kaboul's marking was shocking for the goal.
  • Kaboul acted like a proper captain that day. The way he pushed Capoue away because he knew he was treading the line on being carded.
  • On Kaboul in general, it makes me kinda sad. He had the potential to be our leader and a man-mountain in defence, but somehow it's not worked out that way, both on the pitch and in the locker room. Tara Younes, cheers for the good bits. :(
  • Benteke's red card was deserved, for pushing Scrappy-doo in the face. But Scrappy didn't go throwing himself to the floor as though his eyes had been sprayed with bleach as so many players do, he stayed on his feet. I like that. It's the fight in the dog.
  • Chadli's ability to hit one off the volley, as we saw against... erm, QPR or Swansea (CBA to google, sorry) clearly isn't a one-off. Get him the right opportunities and the Dolphin's gonna smash 'em in. This could be something we might want to prioritise, so we're not so reliant on the HurriKane and The Great Dane for goals. Damn I love my nicknames. :D
  • The look in Harry's eyes as he takes that scoring free-kick. It's chilling. The boy's a sociopath when it come to getting the ball in the net. I told y'all, about 4 years ago now - and yes, I will continue to rub that in. ;)

Quite true it is not the size of the dog in the fight!

Here's a rerun of our gallant [sic.] visit to Old Trafford this afternoon:
