Gambling is an addiction, how do we know he won’t do it again?

We don't, the same way we don't know if any of our current players may one day adopt the habit. So considering he's a good player, we have the opportunity to put some faith and trust in somebody whose made a mistake and hope it has a positive impact. Either way, whatever he's done in the past off the pitch should not be the determining factor.

It shouldn’t but, he has admitted betting on Brentford games so there is a trust issue as well if he has conflicting priorities in a game. Like others I think we should push forward with the two international number 9s at the club already and invest in a pacey wide player

Yeah that's why you give him trust, because of the trust issue, he might not be the best fit for footballing reasons but I'd be happy if we risked it with him and provided a good example of somebody coming back from a mistake.

The problem is that if he does it again the ban will be longer than the 9 months he previously got.

If it was me I wouldn’t be risking £50 - 80 million on him.

Absolutely not. He's come across as a bellend even outside of this betting stuff, which was an absolutely idiotic thing to get involved in. More than happy to steer clear.

We now seem to have a manager in who values strength of character over short term gain so hopefully his input will be crucial in this recruitment

Leaving the betting stuff aside, this should be a hard pass.

He’s good, but not considerably, if at all better than Richi as an all round forward.

Not a good use of funds at all.

I’m amazed people are even putting him forward, let alone when you add the betting issues

I think I'm probably in the minority, but I"m not so sure if I would go for him. He seems like a great Kane replacement, but he doesn't strike me as being a perfect fit for what Ange looks for in a forward (playing on the shoulder, looking to get in behind, stretching the defense). Given price, age, and availability, I'd rather look elsewhere, but equally I may just be underrating him because I've not seen that much of him.
Yeah I rate Toney and wouldn’t be mad if we signed him, but I think you’re right in that he doesn’t feel as good a fit as others might be

He has far too much baggage.
What is is banned for occurred before he was even at Brentford.

I am sure I read/heard somewhere that is is now a consummate professional.

Would be a strong and effective member to the squad if the money was right.

Much rather we were looking at Evan Ferguson…..
We can look at him all we like. Brighton have him on a very long contract and they won't sell, if they wanting 110 million for Moses Caceido....what do you think this kid will go for? If he plays regularly and scores say 20 goals this season or next that kid is being sold for 150 million plus.

Cant agree sadly
Toney is alongside Olly Watkins in the second tier of strikers (behind haaland and kane)

he’s a great target man, good presser and not slow. Excellent finisher and possibly the best penalty taker in the PL now Kane has left.
id love it if richarlison was at his level but it’s a stretch to make it true.
Tbh Callum Wilson, isak and Darwin Nunez are all more effective strikers than richarlison as things stand

however, I’m not sure they all fit the new system and if it suits richy then good news.
On pure ability Toney is ahead of Richarlison though

As I said in a follow up, there’s a lot more to the story that hasn’t been reported

Looks we are currently looking at couple of different options, taking time to see who is available and who to go for.

And again, if we knew Kane was off for over a month then why are we just now assessing Ivan Tony. Tony isn’t going to be able to help us now anyway, regardless what we think of him.

I just have a bad feeling about a transfer like this

- he would be expensive, maybe 60m+?
- by the time he would be available, he'd be nearly 28...so arguably at his very peak, but...
- ...if we were ever looking to recoup any of the fee, we'd only get two or three seasons out of him, at which point he'd be worth maybe a third of that?
- I'm not convinced there's much room for improvement, or...
- ...that he's obviously that much better than what we have in Richi or Son. A better goal scorer, yes, but not hugely I would guess

For the money it would take, I would reckon there are better, longer term alternatives.

And yes, we do need to think about this on the basis of best use of cash, because we don't have as much as those around us.

I think 30m on an Gift as an up and coming youngster would be a better bet than 60m on him. Just a hunch
