IMO Caulker will never be as good as Dawson.

I know we'd all like him to be the next King, but I still think if he was a Swansea youth team player no one would have given him a second look. Would be great to be proved wrong of course.

Name me one premier league defender who has made one hundred appearances before the age of 20, fair enough most of it was in the lower leagues but it was competitive games not bullshit youth games

Jones was sold for a lot and he has not got as much experience as caulker, as a CB

Based on what I have seen of him at Yeovil and Bristol City, I would have to disagree with that. Can't say I have seen many of his performances for Swansea, though.

Agreed and he has been very good in a swansea team that has no conceded many goals considering their style of play

Dembele, Vossen and Lukaku are hardly rubbish....

Lukaku is just a name and a very young one at that. Barely u21 standard yet.
Dembele is a support striker and has been playing more as a midfielder for club.
Vossen is also young and hasn't done anything outside of genk and only a handful of senior caps.

They have potential but the reason the have been poor is because these players are not international standard strikers yet. We would be in the same boat without rooney but at least we have some senior strikers to fall back on.

Been wondering that for a few years now.

Based on the implication in Vertonghen's words about Hazard not being his good friend "because he speaks another language", sounds like the Belgian national team is a little version of the country, with Flemish and Walloon factions keeping apart, perhaps even with some animosity.

Like the Spanish team used to be (Castillon vs. Catalan, or basically Madrid vs. Barca), which kept them underachieving for years. Dutch team is also prone to infighting of this sort.

Don't know what the English team's excuse is :-|

There are a lot of clubs after him, will be a bidding war no doubt. I can really see Wenger trying to reunite him with Vermaelen seeing how they came through the Ajax academy together.

Don't they both play left centre back?

Don't they both play left centre back?

Yes and no, they are both very versatile. At Ajax only left footed players play on the left and right footed players on the right, so one of the two was moved to the LB position (usually Vertonghen), but for Belgium they have played in the center together whenever Kompany was out. Vertonghen and Vermaelen can also play in midfield and that's why they are so comfortable on the ball (Ajax philosphy).

Vertonghen admits Arsenal are top of his list

Jan Vertonghen has *revealed that Arsenal top the list of clubs he would consider joining when he leaves Ajax this summer.

Emirates boss Arsene Wenger is eager to sign the £10million-rated Belgian centre-back, who is also rated by Tottenham and Newcastle.

As we revealed last *Sunday, Vertonghen went to the Emirates as a guest of Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen for the Gunners’ 3-0 Champions League *victory over AC Milan.

Vertonghen, 24, said: *“Arsenal are a magnificent club and I hear a lot of good things about English *football. If a club of *Arsenal’s calibre can reach agreement with Ajax, then I will gladly go over.

“I have instructed my agent carefully.

“He knows which clubs I want to join, and Arsenal are one of them.”

Vertonghen added: “I haven’t signed anything with them yet.

“But I went to watch them against Milan, together with my Ajax teammate Siem de Jong, after *Vermaelen invited us.

We had a few days off and profited from them.”

Headlines been made up there it seems. From the quotes he says that Arsenal are a club he would go to, not that they're the top of his list. Really hope we sign this lad. Looks class.

Will be rather annoyed if he chooses them over us. He's just what we need. Just goes to show though that most footballers are as fickle as us fans are. We were flavour of the month 4 weeks ago, it's Arsenal's turn now. Would like to hope that Hazard hasn't had a change of heart but I'm cynical.

Why wouldn't he?
If the list of criteria included league position, recent history, salary, former team-mates and friends, managerial stability, stadium capacity and international reputation, I can't see us coming out on top of too many of those. Ditto Hazard

Why wouldn't he? Well why indeed. But I'm basing my thoughts on the fact that we have held informal talks with both players with both indicating that they'd be happy to join us. Thus I'd be rather annoyed if Arsenal pipped us to their signings. Of course I would. Why wouldn't I? Why wouldn't you? I don't think we have any God give right in these matters. Failing to see what you're arguing against here tbh.

Let's face it - Spurs are not going to sign any players of merit until Harry's replacement is sorted,... end of really... :bang:

Maybe, but which coaches aren't going to like good quality players? Maybe levy can make a couple of big splashes in the hope of luring mourinho.

Those quotes were taken from a Dutch tv show and he answered the host who is an Ajax ITK. He confessed that his agent had talks with Arsenal, but when asked about Spurs he said that both would be great and he doesn't want to exclude any clubs. Barcelona are now also interested btw.

Milan has Seedorf, Zlatan and Urby Emanuelson as ex Ajax players so both Siem and Vertonghen were cheering on their former teammates (well not Seedorf ofcourse since he's before their time) since Urby hasn't left Amsterdam that long ago.
