Everything I’ve seen suggests the club want two CB’s. Romero looks like being the first. Andersen strikes me as someone the club have looked at and like, but maybe have eyes on someone else, believing they can come back for him.

Palace is about his level let's be honest.

He didn't pull up any trees at Lyon and was an integral part of a Fulham defence that got relegated. We should be aiming a lot higher and it's good to see that we are, with Romero/Kounde etc.

Kind of agree. I said if we did get Andersen, id want a better/experienced defender next to him. Dont think he is ready to lead and transform our defence.

Getting linked to Romero, Skriniar, Lacroix and Kounde made Andersen and Vestergaard look really unappealing anymore. Think we were all just desperate for some new faces at the time which led us to try and justify the latter 2 as smart additions.

Robertson and Maguire were an integral part of a Hull defence that were relegated and coneded 80 goals in 16/17 which is the second highest since 14/15, would you say they're bad and much worse than what we have? What matters is is having a team working well as a defensive unit, take Chelsea this season for example. 19 games under Lampard in the league, 23 goals conceded and 7 clean sheets then under Tuchel, 13 goals conceded, 11 clean sheets with the same squad going from 9th to 4th.

By that same logic Kane and Son were integral parts of a team that finished in the conference league places and we should be aiming higher but obviously they're class and there is no chance of upgrading them. Good players can play for "worse" teams, play in lower leagues, "worse" leagues etc. Completely disregarding them without acknowledging the fact it's a game of 11v11 is ridiculous

Fair enough, but Maguire and Robertson are freak cases. You can always find examples of things that buck the trend.

For the most part throughout his career, he hasn't really pulled up any tress, I just think we can do a lot better than him.

I think this link has died now we are under new management and have a sporting director who dictates things for the better and had the ability to get transfers done with better contacts

Yeah very much get the vibe this was more of a 'Hitchen' move that has been pushed back down the list now that Paratici and Nuno are here.

All the initial reports were that we wanted him and he was eager to come - it was simply a matter of the new manager/DoF rubber stamping it. Then as soon as Nuno and Paratici arrived it completely went cold.

Generally seems like Paratici is targeting more exciting/ambitious options, though, so might not be a bad thing. Andersen had some great moments last season and is a great passer, but at 25 he's probably not going to suddenly become an elite, top level defender.

Absolutely. I was really expecting the level of Andersen and Vestergaard and I'd accepted that as it would probably still improve our defence (not hard) and if there's a cheap option it would seem like us to favour that it. It's been a really pleasant surprise to be on the brink of signing Romero and still looking for someone with the quality of Kounde as well as him.

... and was an integral part of a Fulham defence that got relegated.
Fulham's problems were more at the other end of the pitch, though. Five of the teams who finished above them conceded more goals.

I think we were all happy enough with the idea of buying Andersen but our eyes have been raised to new horizons that if we're honest, we never expected.
Was Andersen an improvement on what we have? Possibly, is he better than who we're now hunting? I don't think so. I saw today a link with Palace so he may get his move anyway.
