Possibly but at the same time he shouldn’t re invent the wheel, he could take bits from pep and klopp and counter pressing but also mix in his defensive set up and effectiveness and clinicality and counter attacking and you’ll have an interesting mix.

Exactly my point. Instead of trying to outsmart them with something new just to prove his tactical genius.

I know it’s early doors. But have to say. He is saying all the right things to press my buttons!

I didn’t think it was possible to love again so soon. Am I on the rebound??

Personally i hope he can get jan and toby to re-commit. Solid organised decence is something that he never had at united and is key. Im interested to see whether since his break from football he has created a newer way (and philosophy) to play the game? We have seen pep and klopp deliver a recognisable philosophy but football is always changing and someday somebody will develop a different way. Perhaps something new from him?

I think for many the moment of truth will be when, after a few good results, someone at a home game starts the "Jo-se Mou-rin-ne-ho" chant and they'll be a brain freeze moment when it just does not feel right to join in.... and what do you do?

At the obvious risk of being accused of making stupid comparisons, this is where you get managers like Redknapp and Allardyce who are under appreciated alongside the big club managers. Success is something that comes with sacrifices, and those sacrifices are sometimes playing style or principles.

If you want to win things, you have to occasionally choose between success and aesthetics. So many clubs have pushed BFS out of their clubs due to playing ugly football, despite getting those teams either out of trouble, or into top half finishes (totally different category of 'success', but nonetheless...). Too many deluded fans and chairman expect managers to be able to create teams that can play Guardiola-like football with Pulis-like players. Warnock got Cardiff playing well last year but it didn't get them far. Wilder is doing it this season, but they could well get found out in the second half of the season.

In short, you have to judge the football a manager plays alongside the players he has. As has been said on here already today, no one had Redknapp down as the type to play as we did under him, but it was also really the only time he'd had the players that could do it. Similarly, Mourinho had a pretty poor team at United and they'd have been put to the sword if he'd tried to get them playing pretty football.

Pretty much every top manager at some point will choose results over style when it is necessary to do so. I'm not saying the aforementioned two are/were "top" managers, but more that Pep, Jose or any other "top" manager will only play the football his team are capable of playing whilst winning.
Redknapp has always been fairly attacking oriented. His west ham side and even Portsmouth side played good stuff. I think no one expected him to do as well as he did but I don't think the style was surprising.

problem is we haven’t had attacking football for over a year now, we have been pretty horrible to watch for ages, so at the worst we are likely to be winning more games and still being bored, at best, well who knows, but I’m certainly ready to find out.

It’s ridiculous you even had to say this. Some people are just bizarre!

I said that Trix yesterday, and got some optimistic ratings etc. But from what I heard before his appointment, and since. He will be playing counter-press aggressive football. But! Only high press when needed.
This is excellent news if true, Pep and Klopp both play counter press and it's very much the future of football.

I’ve just watched the whole press conference.

He said everything I think we could have wanted him to say. Word for word the perfect press conference. Let’s see how it all materialises.

Disagree. He could have said in Columbo style : “oh, just one more thing. I fucking hate Arsenal”.

Felt like Poch wanted basically to scrap half the squad and start over again... another 2-3 year plan before challenging for trophies...

Even with some positions that need addressing, this current squad has too many good players to not be competitive.
It's perfect for Mourinho to take over and work with.

Poch obviously just had enough here, to be honest - it all just became a bit stale unfortunately.

I was so glad to read that apparently when Mourinho and Levy met/ interviewed, Jose said you have the third best squad in the league, Levy agreed and was impressed. Ive said the same for ages on here, which was part of the reason why I wanted a Poch gone.He had the audacity to talk about we needed a rebuild like we have a shit squad, it was third best ffs. Third is par. Hopefully with Mourinho he can take us even higher though.

Poch truly lost the plot. I mean what did he expect Levy to do? Sell half the squad? It was one of many strange comments by Poch.

Wanyama seems like a Mourinho-type player. I wonder if his knee issues are chronic, or whether he can get back to his best (which was awesome).

Mourinho is proper Spurs. Or at least, proper the-Spurs-I've-always-wanted-us-to-be.

Mate, he wears Spurs pyjamas.

I’ve always loved him. Definitely never called him a **** or an arrogant prick or anything like that and any of the posts in my history where I’ve abused him was clearly a joke.

I’ve only seen him at the Lane a few times in previous seasons and I can tell you now, I never once shouted any abuse at him. In fact, when Terry got the equaliser against us under AVB a few years back when my fellow yids were shouting abuse at Terry or had their heads in their hands I looked towards Jose and gave him a thumbs up and a nod. What a guy.

Yep if he tries to do this we will fail because that’s not his expertise. Be humble and learn from it sure as football always changes and adapts but keep to the core principles and ‘DNA’ which has made him so so successful.

But he’s such a clever guy and always analyses everything so I’m sure he’s just tweaked and improved his methods to be slightly more attacking. Let’s see how it goes but I’m sure he will never lose his principles of play and expertise in defensive play and ‘controlling’ games because this + a slightly more possession based attacking approach could well be a very successful mix.

That having said peps Man City is very similar to his Barcelona team and Jose won the league with Real Madrid against that pep team and beat them 3-1 at the camp nu so Jose has it in him to beat pep and I’m sure he can work klopp out as well, he analyses how to play a against Liverpool prettty well on sky.

Exciting times.

I remember many being gutted we didnt get De Boar. Hindsight is a wonderful thing of course. I was excited about Poch and what he could do for our young players development, and now I'm excited by the prospect of what Jose can do with those developed players and turn them into winners
Exactly. And van gaal was a hoped for individual. I think what I’m trying to get across is the fact I’m on the cusp of acceptance and, therefore, excitement & possibilities. His press conference was very professional. He’s a well travelled, intelligent and experienced coach who can only bring our team success, in real terms. It’s still surreal seeing him speak of ‘our’ club; not because the sun shines out of his arse, but because I don’t like him!! It’s tough Re-evaluating a previously held opinion. Although, I’m both fickle & forgiving ... much like a lot of spurs fans.

Genuinely, I've always really liked him - even during his spells with Chelsea - and I've been jealous of the clubs who've employed him in the past. So happy he's finally come to us.

Not really sure what I feel about all of this but its been a long time since I've been really excited before a game. It will probably take some time to see the changes Mourinho wants to implement but I hope we'll see a revitalized squad this weekend.
