Would be curious to know what stipulations if any there are in his contract. Think it was mentioned if he gets us top 4, he gets a bonus but what about the other way? If he doesn't make it and say falls a fair bit short, would it be beyond the realms of possibility there could some sort of break clause in there allowing us to look at someone else who may be more 'gettable' in the summer?

If there was something like that, unlikely Levy would heavily back him this window. Also worth noting World Cup qualifying starts later this year and I do wonder whether leading Portugal to Qatar is something that will appeal to him. Who knows, their current manager has a contact that runs until July of this year so he may well be a situation where he leaves after the Euros and they are on the lookout for a new manager.

Also if we don't make top 4/win the CL and Mourinho is still at the helm in the summer, it probably somewhat limits the players we can target without CL. Mourinho usually likes to target a name or two and without CL that becomes very difficult as we are not a Utd who can throw big money at a target to convince them to sign without CL, so good chance he'll need to be flexible on targets, something I don't really associate with him. This is where it would get potentially tricky having him at the club imo.

The performances really havent been that bad, at home anyway we at least look like bothering the scorers. In the last year under Poch we rarely had a shot on goal until half an hour had gone. I'm not sure what people want from us with such a disjointed squad and one so obviously low on confidence. The football hasn't been good for a year and I much prefer us actually getting the ball forward under Mourinho than passing it in circles across the pitch between the centre backs and midfield and going nowhere under Poch. Let's not have memories like goldfish, we havent played decent football consistently for over 2 years bar the odd performance at Wembley.

He references small group of players. He wants some in I suspect/hope.

Does this have an impact on your transfer plans for the month? Would you like to bring in a striker as a back-up?
"Again, I come to work with the players that are available and I'm not thinking about the market. I think my job is to do what I did today, what I'm going to do tomorrow, which is to work with a small group of players. The players playing are permanently recovering but recovering is not enough. If you look at the number of injuries to Premier League players in the past two weeks, you realise recovering is not enough. The most protected players belong to the squads with so many solutions that there is space for rotation. I don't want to think about it. Of course the market is open until the end of January. Everybody in the club wants to give the teams the best conditions but at the same time the world doesn't end at the end of this season. We have a few months until the end of the season to fight for results obviously but nothing ends at the end of the season. The end of the season is just the end of a first period. Yesterday I was watching the Liverpool match and I was watching the best team in the world at the moment. Then I Googled it just to confirm, Jurgen arrived in October 2015. 2016, 17, 18, 19 and now 20. Eight transfer windows, lots of players leaving, lots of players coming and even more important than that, time for him to put his philosophy, his training methods, his fingerprint. Beautiful results as a consequence of fantastic work, step-by-step, phase-by-phase. In the first season they finished sixth or something like that and four years later they are not just the world champions, they are the best team in the world in this moment. No panic, calm. I have experience, the club has lots of experience, Mr Levy has lots of experiences. Calm doesn't mean we don't want to win the next match. The next match we always want to win."

Say it quietly but Arsenal signing Arteta could be a master stroke.

I’m not fooled by Mourinho his already starting with Ndombele (these players are like egg shells - management need to adjust with the times) we all know the players have the power . Just look at Pochettino

I thought Watford played better against United when they beat them than Arsenal did at the weekend.

I had to chuckle when Martin Keown said ‘you can see this Arteta Arsenal team is a combination of Guardiola and Wenger’

He might turn out to be amazing, he might also turn out to be worse than Unai.

Welcome to Tottenham Mr Mourinho. You are about to witness 3 months without Kane and an empty transfer policy in January........

Gooooooood luck..... ?

I was actually fairly encouraged by that press conference. It sounds as though he has a handle on the reason for poor performances and is looking towards the future, and is realistic about possibilities for this season.

I’ve watched for a couple of months and I would love to be wrong but..... Mourinho is a dinosaur in the modern era. We have no plan. The football has been atrocious. I am seriously worried about the future with Jose at the helm.

I think its fairly obvious that the poor performances are due to lack of time on the training pitch.
They are encouraging comments, although many on here will be frantically reading between the lines, conjuring up negatives.

That anyone is pointing the finger at Mourinho is tragic and laughable.

Always blaming our Managers when we’ve bought the wrong players.

You got one of the most successful managers of all time and he’s still the problem!

Doesn’t sound like he’s taking middlesboro for granted. Let’s hope the players don’t either.

I was pleased to hear him say that the FA Cup is important. Poch never seemed too interested in it, but so many of my favourite Spurs memories are from this competition that I've always cared about it, and always want us to take it very seriously.

It’s an embarrassment to everyone associated with the club that we haven’t won it since 1991.

As my son said on Monday when I suggested Jose might not be here by seasons end if it carries on as it is, it can't all be about the manager. These players didn't perform for Poch & now they're not performing for JM, so it's more about them than the managers.

Yeah, nearly 30 years. And in that time only 2 League cups. Puts things in perspective really.

Agree. That semi final win over Arsenal is still the best day of my Spurs supporting life. Although I was 15 and most things seem better when you’re 15.

Can’t believe it was so long ago.

It does not help that Poch signed.
Ndombele brilliant but soft as butter and loses the ball in the area between our penalties area and the halfway line too often the worst area to lose possession.i must say for all his ability he comes across as a bit of a wimp.
Sessegnon has proved nothing and has not put his stamp on left back or left wing the jury is out.
Le Celso looks neat but as of yet has produced nothing of note .How long do we wait for him to be productive?
These players may come good but right now we need players that are good to go .
If we do sign anybody they must be proven premier league players or players of sufficient quality that they will produce from the off.
