The difference being that Ancelotti actually succeeded. He kept the clean sheet against the best team in the world right now. When Jose played Liverpool at home, he lost. And his attempts at defensively-sound football have led to our attack being blunted, while we've still nearly always failed to keep a clean sheet and conceded far too many goals.

The difference is that one game happened after 3 months of lockdown and Liverpool was without Salah, Robertson and they didn't even try to win that game looking by subs made

I kind of get the feeling in his pre match conference that he is having an "indirect' dig at Ndombele when he mentions the sub bench and Steven's attitude and professionalism. Let's hope Ndombele be the player that he is capable at being in Tottenham Hotspur
That ship has long sailed...

I know there are plenty on here who like to dismiss the pots in favour of the process which I can understand to a certain extent but the reality is that both matter and it's high time we got this monkey off of our back whilst we still have an opportunity to do so. We need to create some history.

Still, Levy is doing a remarkable job at channeling fan anger to the coaches and away from his role in the situation. Coaches most of the time can't perform miracles and to win you need top players, it's as simple as that.
Agree, but top coaches will assess their players and formulate tactics and game plan to reflect this, and not try and shove a square peg into a round hole.

It's not just that one game though. He's played some very defensive football, and yet only kept 3 clean sheets in his entire time here - one of which was in a totally unacceptable result regardless (0-0 vs Watford). I can get the argument of sacrificing good football to improve the defence and get results, even if I don't think it's the direction we should go in. But when we're being offered turgid football combined with poor defending and only just being in the top-half, questions have to be asked.

How do you come to that conclusion?
How do i come to the conclusion that a manager will pick a player out of position if he feels he is better than the actual players he has in that position?

some call it Intuition others sorcery.
I just call it common sense.

Has to be goals in that line up surely!!

gio
Dele
Lucas
Sonny
Kane

and bergy and Lamela if needed!! Full fire power. No parking the bus today handbrake off please.

the faith I’m holding out in Jose is that he is usually true to his word, he’s asked for a pre seasons he’s asked for players back from injury, he’s asked for a bit of time to work with the players, he’s asked for 6 attacking options so he actually has options off the bench and longer term he’s asked for a few tweaks to the squad which I’m guessing is what we all see we need in 2 full backs a DM and back up to kane.

apart from the new signings which hopefully we can scrape together in the summer, he now tonight has had all he’s asked for so that’s it Jose no more excuses now handbrake off time for some balanced positive football at home to these lesser teams, like vs Burnley 5-0 and like when we dominated these guys away in his first match.

for me tonight will say a lot about our possible future under Jose.

So thoughts on this then? Nothing special but not that bad either and a solid win in a game we lost 1-0 last year. Onwards and upwards. Give Jose 4 players(RB,LB,DM,ST) on frees loans find them down an ally whatever and we could have a good season

Anyone slowly feeling a little more optimistic about Jose? I think some real positives the last two matches, mainly we look much more solid than we ever have done and without a solid base you will rarely win anything.
I like the dier & Sanchez partnership and consistent back 4 2 games in a row finally, gio and Sissoko looked good and we now have 6 attacking options finally. We still need more, mainly a back up to kane which will then mean we have more midfield attacking options as it frees up son and Lucas to just be attacking midfielders.

It wasn’t overly exciting tonight but we got the job done, last year they beat us 1-0 in this fixture and that’s first time since 2012 we’ve done the double over them, never easy matches.

jose asked for time and for a pre season and for injured players to be back and for attacking options on the bench, we are now looking a lot more like a solid Jose team.

defiantly some real positives. If we can just tweak the squad in summer 2FB’s a DM and ST and we could be very very strong under Jose next season.

Also the more I think about it the more I’d rather he was our manager than a rivals manager, I think he still has 90% of his aura and If he can keep getting us solid performances and results Other teams, Fans and media will start To respect and fear us again.

COYS.
Onwards and upwards.

I thought we were poor first 20 or 30 minutes but after that dominated. He seems to make a difference in drinks breaks.

Always makes the right subs too. Lamela on for Dele for example. Now those that knock him must realise that’s what he meant when he was talking about lack of options off the bench after the Man U game. Pretty obvious.

Pre Lockdown - defence like a sieve and an absolute shambles

Now - 2 solid defensive performances, a comfortable win and a very good draw against an inform Utd

Yes there’s still areas we need to improve on but the team are working for each other, our defence has come on leaps and bounds and we’re back picking up points again.

Given pre lockdown we were talking about wholesale changes, we still need players but I think a few guys have stepped up their game and reduced 1 or 2 headaches re needing in effect a whole new defence. Dier has been excellent, Aurier despite his 1 to 2 errors per game has been busting a gut for the team and Lloris looks assured and reliable again. Both Sanchez and Davies have also put in 2 solid performances.

You could say Jose and the squad are finding their feet.

Jose also good use of subs and by going on about the attacking bench options and other options it brings a sense of togetherness in the squad which is good.

jose knows when all are squad are fit like tonight we have a very very talented squad, issue is keeping them fit and bringing in a few more options for when the inevitable happens with Lamela injuries and Kane injury etc, we also need to improve our full backs or at least the cover for them and get a proper DM in.

if we could get for example the below which shouldn’t cost too much, offload a couple we could have one of the strongest squads in the league next season.
nathan Ferguson RB
jamal Lewis LB
Hoyjeberg DM
Ryan Fraser AM
Giroud or Lille striker ST

over to you levy.

COYS goodnight all.
wins feel good however they come.

Seems obvious we’ve been working more on defence. He’s just said the following though so maybe more will come up the other end.

"We managed to be really solid today so I'm also happy with that.

"We also trained attacking organisation and we know we need to improve that, being more dynamic and improving our intensity.

"I had a rich bench today and plenty of quality."

Most important thing is he's aware of the need to improve offensively. I really haven't been impressed with what I've seen but if we can see signs of improving in that area it will be very encouraging, considering to his credit he's seemingly starting to sort things out at the other end.
