I think you could make a decent case to answer any of the 3 options. Personally, I feel they were both incredibly disappointing mainly due to their demeanour and behaviour , whilst being paid huge salaries. Probably the easy answer is Conte because of his 4th place finish, but how much was that really just down to Kane and Son. Much the same goes for Jose too. Conte's appalling attitude, post world cup, negates any real credit in my book.
' There's only one way to find out' " FIGHT'"!!
Even though I disliked the style of football both had me believing we were capable of challenging at the very top , albeit not for long. Jose after we beat Utd away 1-6 and Conte after beating Norwich away 0-5 and securing Champions league. Then both fell apart , one of the reasons was the players or some of them were just not good enough. Their time at the club was quite similar really. False dawns.
Given the reputation and standing in the game both of them have (or had, before managing us) and the amount they were paid, both did an utterly appalling job. They may have had poor squads, Jose particularly, but ultimately they didn't get the best out of them and that's what good managers do. Both left the club in a bad state.
Jose said we are the only club hes ever managed he doesn't feel any affinity for after leaving , despite a fucking whopper of a pay off
Conte was great for Conte cam and about 3 months - once he started treating us like he was doing us a favour he was done
They can both do one...
Conte had a higher peak but the lows were monumentally bad. I'd still probably go with him because CL, especially given how we started that season, was a tangible achievement.
I was excited at both appointments. I thought Mourinho was what we needed at the time to get us over that line. Genuinely believed with his time out from football that he would change he’s style etc. as well.
Overall I ended up hating the football and he wasted the Bale return.
Conte I was again excited for after the nuno incident and a rancid summer.
We seemed to ride on a wave, then bought in bentancur and Kulusevski, which I think was the reason we snatched top 4. The football was horrible and cowardly, his attitude plummeted to new lows when it became apparent, that he wasn’t going to be backed in the transfer market. I think he done the fans a bit of a favour by going at levy and the board and let’s face it, he was right, even if he shouldn’t have aired it to the worlds media.
Even though we put up with drab, cowardly football, I think the important thing to take from both appointments, is that Levy won’t go near that style of football again.
