The summer figure was around £29m, €45m. Considering we were reportedly ready to spend £23m on SB and with Townsend seemingly gone the fee shouldn't be a problem.

We offered it over 5 years i believe.

Something we need to get out of if we're serious about signing a quality striker as clubs don't need instalments anymore due to the huge sums earned from TV revenue.

Until we build the new stadium we have little choice.

Being brave this season will lead to a massive windfall if we achieve a top 4 finish. The bigger clubs won't be so poor next season.

Where will the money come from? Lewis has just put in £50m to clear our debt and we paid £50m this summer to start construction. We will be borrowing the money to build the new stadium so can't get a loan from the bank.

But we are asking for a player to come in and replace a striker who scored a goal a game! Son is actually bloody good up front, and we are very unlikely to do better than him in January. He's settled into the squad which is a major plus, so I just don't see us buying

Would probably have to double the SB money...
He hasnt played well this season
Accusations of not being 100% and being unfit from a poor preseason
He hasnt found the form of last season
He wasnt happy the way negotiations went with Aulas and was upset he was made to look bad
He has been dropped from the french squad

Of course Aulas doesn't need to sell as they are about to get more money in from the new stadium but his value has actually gone down as he has had a poor season

4 years ago we were in a similar position. Then DL went out and signed Saha.

If he has learned anything from then and has faith in what we can achieve under Poch this season, DL must go out and sign the very best forward money can buy and make a massive statement that we want to do this!

Who that striker is, another question!
Pretty sure I saw Redknapp talking about this on the TV last year and he said that if Spurs got in that position again Levy had said he would do it differently.

Mind you saying that, it was Redknapp talking so could be complete crap!

I think this is the one purchase we need, we have got lucky to get to here with Kane staying fit.

Personally a saha type signing would be a good improvement, this last transfer window left us without a good alternative to Kane as the lone striker

The difficulty we will have is gettting someone decent who is prepared to come here and challenge Kane for his place because this lad is getting close to being one of the best CF's in the world right now. That second against Norwich was sublime.

Yet we had money to buy SB and have 2 expected departures in Townsend and Fazio.

From the way Levy talked about the SB transfer, I would assume that almost every sale we've made in the past 3 years would have been in instalments so whether the cash is there at the moment could be a different story.

And consequently, prizing top players from mid table sides in the premier league is even more difficult, they don't need the money.

I guess we will have to get someone from abroad, and then if Mr Levy and Poch aren't 100% convinced, money won't be spent.

Still think Chadli has all the attributes to be a very good striker.

On paper you would think so. He 6ft 2 (at least), does have a bit of presence about him, can head a ball, strike a ball with both feet, his movement isn't bad and he can run in behind, isn't the worst technically, and knows where the back of the net is. It's just about getting him to find consistency and getting him to play with a bit of fire in his belly.

I've said for over a year now that he could be an option, and though it may not work in practice I'd rather see us try it out over a few games before going and spending many millions on another back up.

He's much more suited to be a striker than a winger, his height plus lack of agility and explosiveness dictate that he should play there. He's very good at creating space and this would be very good around the box.

Transfers are always paid in instalments, and no one has the cash flow to do otherwise without massive private equity contributions. It is the amount, use of conditional elements and the timing of offers that is the real issue. If we had offered 40 million paid in equal amounts over 5 years on 1 July, Berahino would be playing for Spurs
