Sorry to nitpick, but my point was agreements to agree are just not enforceable; no certainty of intention.

More to the point, all paperwork will 100% be signed when in the employment of another team. In the same way you sign a contract to work at a new place while you're still at the old place.
Fair points, but it depends on the nature of contracts and the courts I suppose. For my own job I had to sign all sorts of non-comp agreements, knowledge transfer restrictions, privacy restrictions, that would prevent me from taking my knowledge and going and selling it to other agencies. I just imagine, as best as can be done, players have to sign similar contracts with restrictions on how/when they can sign with other teams.

If Juve are indeed stepping back this window, it's likely the thing that made the player an achievable target for us in the first place (only 12 months left on contract) is what is also giving Juve all the strength in this scenario, as he can sit tight and sign for them on a free or a discounted deal in January...

A year is a long time in a players career though....

Tottenham ready to pay £27.5million for Keita Balde

Tottenham have been linked with the Lazio attacker Keita Balde Diao for weeks now.

According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, the Londoners are willing to match the asking price for the Senegalese forward now.

Apparently, Lazio are holding out for a fee of £27.5million for the attacker (translated by HITC). The player is thought to be keen on a move to Juventus but the Italian champions are unwilling to match the asking price for the player.

Keita has been one of the best players in Serie A over the last 12 months and Spurs could certainly use his pace and flair. The Londoners need to add some width to their attack and Keita would be ideal for them. The former Barcelona player scored 16 goals from a variety of positions in the Serie A last season. The 22-year-old can play anywhere across the front three and his versatility would be an added bonus.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Keita would only join a Premier League side if they are in the Champions League and are based in London. In that case, Spurs have a very good chance of landing the player. Furthermore, their willingness to match Lazio’s demands will only benefit them.

It will be interesting to see whether Juventus decide to pay up for the player now. Keita is intent on leaving and if the Italian giants do not splash the cash, he might just decide to head to England with Spurs.
So £27.5m for Keita and £22m for Aurier? That's fantastic business. Is there any chance whatsoever, that even if the links are true, that the plastic blue wankers don't try to gazump us with at least one of these deals? That's like pocket change to them.

SkyBet have cut his odds on joining us this morning from 7/2 into 2/1. Might not mean anything, but occasionally can be a sign something is happening.

Tbh if he isn't keen on coming to Spurs and has his heart set on Juve then I don't think we should pursue anymore.

Iirc we signed Popescu under similar circumstances in 1992 and he left z year later for Barcelona. Great goal v the scum that season though :)

If they had inside info it would be a LOT shorter odds than that, this is just a reaction to people putting money on.

Which means there will be a story on SSN saying he's coming to Spurs. SkyBet offer a Balde to Spurs special, rinse all the idiots, then Sky Sources will say Balde has accepted an offer from Juve,

Well I still have £20 on him joining Juve at 11/8. Would love to lose that money if it meant we sign him.

It's a sign that the reports are out there and people will react...true or not.

Cutting the odds like that is an old bookie trick. They do it to make the mug punters think the bookie knows something and the punters pile in. Meanwhile the bookie laughs all the way to the bank. It has nothing to do with money which has gone on already, it is purely to attract money.

Well the Italian reports suggest we've met the asking price & Juve have only offered half, so I suppose we're currently his only option.

Not really sadly. If he won't entertain anywhere but Juve he can play the waiting game and force Lazio to either a) take less for him now or b) sign a pre-contract (possibly even official depending on Serie A rules) in January, no way they can force him to us.

Very true. They were linked to Vardy today, which seems unlikely. This situation has an alarming similarity to what happened with Willian.

For some reason I still can't give up on this one. He's pissed off with Lazio and might just settle for us in the end. I'd take that, as long as he doesn't come with any easy release clauses.

Let Poch show him some love and then he'll forget about Juve
