Well, this sucks. Without a (fit) Lamela we stand less of a chance against Dortmund... let alone Madrid.

Anyway, hope Poch really knows what he's doing regarding Janssen. Seems to me like he has all but given up on him... and I think that's a bit unfair given he has never been given much of chance with us.

Essentially the news is Lamela isn't back ant time soon and Llorente is second choice striker in a team that plays one up front. Pity about Lamela for Janssen it may mean he starts league games either side of champions league games. We'd all like a bigger squad but it costs money.

There's no point in including Lamela. He's not going to be fit in time for the first few group matches.

As for Janssen, there's no room for 3 out-and-out strikers in the squad. Son has more positional flexibility and Llorente has relevant experience.

So it has sod-all to do with "forcing him out" and a lot to do with "trying to win the matches".

Even so, I'd prefer to have Jansen in there than foyth. Yes it's defensive cover but as foyth is young, new to the country and club let alone the champions league he's hardly going to get game time (barring an injury epidemic to our back line).

At least Jansen has experience and is another option offensively if we need to chase the game

Includes Sissoko, excludes Janssen.

That's the rules. It's not about nationality, but where you played football as a kid. Fabregas came to the UK when he was 16. Dier played very little footie in the UK as a teenager.
Fibreglass then returned to Spain and was at Barcelona for a few years. No way can he be considered English in any way.

It's not whether or not he's English, it's whether or not he's home grown.

The Spanish twat was at le arse for many years before he turned 21. So is considered a football talent developed in England and thus home grown

Not sure what game you're expecting him to change. I don't know why people get upset at these minor things, Janssen not bring called up is hardly going to make a difference and will not be the reason should we not make it through the group.

I never said he would change a game.

Can you bet on a player never playing for a club again? If so wish I'd gone in on Lamela a while back, getting farcical. This is effectively acknowledging he's out for a year and a half minimum
next he'll be moaning in the press about his wages & having to google players :cautious:

Had Onomah or Carker-Vickers remained at Spurs - then I feel Janssen would have been included in the squad for the Champs league as we would have been able to name a squad of 25.

Further to that point if the following is true:
The team list features four homegrown players over 21 in Kane, Ben Davies, Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier, while 21-year-old Dele Alli will boost that number along with Winks and Walker-Peters to seven, one short of the ‘locally-trained’ minimum required by Uefa.

However, Uefa ruled also state that if a team is only able to name two players that are considered ‘club-trained’ along with two from the same association, they will be limited to a squad size of 21 players.

Why not promote 1-2 players e.g Edwards, Sterling or Harrison to ensure compliance and then pick a squad of 25?

Janssen has played about 37 times for us. Ok, many of those appearances are off the bench, but if you're good enough you should take your chances to prove to the manager why you need to play more. Janssen hasn't done that. I like him but I can't pretend he's set the world alight.

Because they are u21 and can be used without being named in the squad.
