Is it just me, but I don't understand all the hype surrounding LD.

I know he is young and has plenty of time to develop, but just don't see him as the next big thing.

I'm pretty sure we could bring in better for 20mil.

Oh... and we are already being linked with him for a summer move:

Brazilian side Internacional have reportedly told Tottenham they will have to wait until the summer to sign striker Leandro Damiao, 23, after rejecting a £17m deadline-day offer. (Metro)

The expectation on this guys shoulders if signed now or in the Summer would be so big that it would seem destined to fail. This has been hyped too much for my liking now, so anything other than being constantly outstanding would be a failure in most people's eyes. We need to move on now and bury this one.

Firstly, as already pointed out, there is already an existing player thread. There was really no need to start another one whether you can access it or not, thats up to you to sort out with one of the mods.

Secondly, however, I totally agree with your posts and thats why I can't understand those that think we should have made him our record signing. IMO, we made a more than reasonable offer for a reasonable player.

For me the most important thing is that he would never have made an immediate impact anyway considering he is off season and, therefore, not match fit. He's never played outside of Brazil and would have taken a considerable time to adjust as all Brazilian players seem to need when they arrive in the PL.

Well Sandro didnt turn out to bad after not looking particularly amazing in his first year. and AVB wants him also so I think he is a good target...if we could actually afford him which we cant.

All the other strikers we were linked with, the likes of Hooper (thank the gods AVB wasnt interested) are in no way better than Adebayor who was excellent last year, and even this year badly out of form adds more overall than Defoe.

My theory is a simple one, I dont think he can play with or likes playing as Defoe's strike partner/provider

Robbie keane couldnt strike up a partnership with Defoe, Berbatov couldnt strike up a decent one with Defoe so keane was favoured, VDV couldnt strike up a Partnership with Defoe.

Kind of seeing a pattern, the only partnership that half worked was Crouch and Defoe and that only lasted half a season before defoe had his usual post christmas slump

Roll on Ade and Holtby in a few weeks

Not that I've taken any interest in it but isn't the existing Leandro thread about transfer rumours and the like where this one is regarding the player's qualities and such, no?

We may be able to but clearly we won't pay £20mil anyway.

Yes - this thread was not about a transfer rumour and kind of thought the thread was a different approach. I didn't/couldn't see the original thread, no idea why as no notifications to why not!

I am hoping Ade does come back in form, him and Bale were pretty awsome and showed glimpes of pure class last season. With Holtby in, I really think we can push hard for CL.

I am still a bit worried about the rest of the season, but looking past 'who we should have/cpuld have signed' I still think we have a very strong team.

My United supporting mate even said that when Sandro comes back next season and if we hang on to Bale, we will have one of, if not the best midfield in the league. Sandro/Holtby/Dembele/Lennon/Bale is just oozing class.

It would just require an inform Ade or 'new' No.9 to really finish it off.

Then you meet at a class reunion 10 years later, have a few too many drinks get lucky and wonder what all the fuss was about in the first place.

Kinda feel sorry for him to be fair as it's never been his fault it's all Inter that are causing the problems

i think the problem is..... after all these transfer windows, there was no way Leandro would live up to our expectations

the longer it went on, the better he started to look

Just found this:

22 Aug 2012 - ‏@BackPagePL. Internacional director Marcelo Medeiros told Globo Esporte: "Leandro Damiao won't leave, the offer was below what we wanted." #THFC

Word for word what he was quoted as saying yesterday.

Leandro at the kind of price that Inter want for him is too much of a gamble imho for a young player who has never played outside of Brazil.

Clubs like Chelsea, City and Utd may be able to take that kind of gamble, but with our limited funds Leandro is simply too big a gamble for us to take.

£20m players ask for wages to match in most cases.

Remy was a previous target and he just went to QPR on a reported 90k a week. Glad we're not reckless enough to just pay players what they want.

Don't want another Bentley situation where we buy someone for a huge fee then when he doesn't perform we can't sell because interested clubs won't match his wages.

lloris, Vertonghen, Bale, Kaboul, BAE, Walker, Sandro, Berbatov, Modric, Carrick, Lennon, VDV, Dembele and Bale all cost under £20m and were signed for reasonable wages. Levy's attention to detail and ability to deliver quality and within our financial structure should be applauded.

We'll get that striker one day. For now Defoe and Adebayor are better than many are giving credit.

I agree with you there

But it's left me wondering why Levy was still wasting time with this guy over the last 4 weeks
