YP is a good LB - and with our injuries am so grateful we have him - expect him to play tonight - cos guess what - JR like Jol rates him too - and those are the key opinions

i think any criticism of YP is harsh, he is mr consistent IMO. Always does a job, runs all day and rarely lets anyone down with silly mistakes and not tracking back.

Leave him alone!!!

"not really that good is he?"

Yes; you're just wrong.

Probably the most consistent performer we've had in our squad. And I don't mean 'acceptable', I mean just plain ol' good. Yeah he hasn't scored a rocket, but the reason he's not in the headlines, and not in the thoughts of us post-game is because he's just had another good game, and done his job.

Compared with BAE, he's the Pele of fullbacks and with Bale being preferred in more advance positions, I'm more than happy for Lee to stay as our left back.

He's a sound sound player - which is what you want for that position.

He's fine. We have more pressing areas of our team to concern us. If we happen to replace him with a better left back then fine, but if we don't I have no problem holding onto him. I don't wish to see him at RB again though.

If you want to complain Lee's cross, you should complain Lennon's cross first.

Lennon's final ball is improving all the time, he has put in countless good balls recently including a magnificent cross on saturday that Bent was unlucky that James got fingers to.

Chimbonda and Lee are the best full backs we've had in my memory as a Spurs fan. While neither offer the attacking threat of Cafu and Carlos, they are pretty much the best we could hope for in the current state of things. Lee might always cut inside, but not many fullbacks will have the stamina or the intelligence to get back and foward as much as he does, I also think hes very good at one on ones, especially compared to BAE. Mallbranque form has been excellent this year, YPL has had a huge bearing on that, too many fans over emphasise he has no left etc, but in truth there very few full backs that can match him overall.

so true about RB, Zammo - that's the only big blunder I can think of JR so far - starting him there once - but as he's new I forgive him :)- however it is amazing the times I read on various sites sugestions we play Lee there - considering most of these supporters didn't start this year - bizzare

What is this madness in this thread??

I agree he is better than BAE, but that means nothing.

The thread title says he is NOT THAT GREAT, and he isn't. How can anyone argue with that? Being "the most consistant" doesn't make him great, being "better than BAE" doesn't make him great, he is not great.

He has got away with murder this year, constantly standing sideways on to wingers and allowing them to run inside (exactly where they want to go). Can you imagine Lennon up against him? Lee would let Lennon inside, and we all know he can't cross, yet he wouldn't have to.

As for Lees crossing, that really doesn't bother me since he shouldn't be doing it anywhere near as much as he does.

In the norm it's correct that FB's show outside players inside, it sends them into traffic and cuts down the space they have to run in.

There are obviously exceptions but overall it's the correct way to play.

It makes you wonder what a player has to do do to actually not be called shit on here doesn't it ?

I can't believe anyone younger than 40ish will have seen a better left back at the club than Lee.

As I have said before. Everybody has the right to be a ****. Some people just abuse that priviledge don't they.

Oh my god I want YP Lee to score ..........

"He'll shoot,
He'll score,
He'll eat your labrador,
YP Lee, YP Lee."

I do agree though he is nowhere as good this season as last and is an area of the squad to strengthen in the summer, but we have more pressing concerns in the January transfer window.

Fella, that was fucking funny.

Here are some basics for you:

http://www.juniorsoccercoach.com/public/602.cfm?sd=6

"We prefer our players to show the opponent outside, preventing a more direct attack on goal. Therefore, when the full back moves out to close down and put pressure on the ball carrier they do so opening their body up so that they are angled, inviting the opponent to use the area that you are allowing them."

"The key to defending an attack down the wings is to hold up the opponent and either force them to make a back pass or if it's your preference show them outside down the channel."

The article then goes on to explain when you may be correct. But by no means is it "the norm". If you watch any of the top four the defenders take the wingers right the way down to the corner flag. Evra ( who I think is the best left back in the league) is great at it.

Oh dear

That's basics.

Never played the game at any level then?

No your right what teams really want is for their FB's to be skinned down the outside and for the opposition to be getting in crosses from deep positions from where they are far more difficult to defend.

That website is a beauty

written by a 5 year old for 5 year olds and read by 5 year olds.

The only thing that is right on there is that FB's should hold up the play

And the way to do that is to send them backwards or inside to where the traffic is.

Wingers are generally pretty quick and unless you have pace to burn yourself (like Evra) the last place you want them is going down the outside of you.

Obviously Lee can't do what Bale can do attacking-wise, but I think this thread is a little harsh. He's been one of our most consistent performers this season.

Hahaha. The reason I picked that website (for you) is because it is very basic, and you clearly know nothing about how to defend.

If someone is faster than you, you make them run the long way around, that way their extra speed makes less difference (as you run a shorter distance).

By sending a player down the outside they end up down by the corner flag and will generally have to do an out-swinging pass.

Clearly the last place you want to allow a fast player to run is straight at your center backs.

And yes, I have played football my whole life, and yes, as a full back. And I have been coached by some pretty high standard coaches, including sessions with some of Wimbledons old players.

If you would like to disagree, feel free, but try to explain why you would want to let a player get inside and past your full back, I just can't see why a full back would let himself get out of the game like that.

Oh, that's your point! You think a fullback should let a winger come inside so that the center backs can tackle him and mark the two forwards at the same time! May as well just not have full backs.
