No surprise that we kick off with news from Spurs. We understand Daniel Levy has flown out to Marseille in a bid to tie up a deal for striker Loic Remy. We'll bring you more on this through the day.

To me he provides a great alternative to Hulk with costs considered.

Agree and he's also very good when he plays out right of drifting off his wing into the box and getting on the end of crosses. It's a perfect fit when we have Bale beating his man and knocking balls in like we did in the first half against WBA. Instead of only having Defoe in the box, we'd have Ade and Remy waiting to pounce and Remy is actually quick enough to keep up with Bale when he breaks too.

He'd be a good enough back up to Ade as well.

Remy makes sense.

Wide right, cover for Ade, not stupid money.

Ade ain't come here to sit on bench.

Am I the only one here who is not getting excited ? He is 25 YO and only in his last 2 seasons he have started to blossom, looks to me as a big gamble if he costs more than 12 mil.
Better sign William and wait for January for a better option.

willian is 24, playing in a weaker league, will cost more, and has much less impressive stats than remy

I would think he would cost more than 12M (pounds). I think Marseille paid 15M (euros) for him a couple of years ago, and his price hasn't gone down. Seems like a player AVB might like - can play that wing-forward role in the supposed AVB canonical scheme, and has the desired versatility, also able to play CF.

I think he's less of a risk than Willian but my preference is still aubeyameng.... partly in hope that the money saved will go towards a big no.9.

Having said that I really like the thought of remy attacking the back post when bale has the ball.

If we can't get Hulk, we should get Remy. Although, does anyone else worry that he'll turn out like Gervinho?

I really hope this one isn't true. I've been reasonably happy with our incomings so far.

Get back to feckin Portugal Mr. Levy!!!!

Underwhelming one this for me. Although would prefer him to Willian and he'd likely be only back up which is fair enough.

I can't see why anyone would be particularly adverse to this guy signing considering he would give us another wing/striker option, especially if he is cheap.

I'm far from convinced about Remy tbh, especially given his injury record. If we're looking at him for the RWF position then I'd personally have preferred Willian, who I think has exactly the sort of guile, unpredictability and technique that we need.

On the plus side though, if the plan is to switch to a 433 then we're going to need the wing forwards to weigh in with a fair load of goals, and Remy would be more conducive towards that. Also, of course, it provides that much needed cover for Ade up front. I do have concerns about Remy but I suppose it all comes down to price and practicality really.

can somebody refresh my memory re Remy - weren't we interested in him a few years back, then his club (Nice I think) agreed a fee with Stoke only for him to fail a medical, or did he turn them down?

He turned down Stoke and failed a medical with Marseille due to a heart problem. Marseille then renegotiated the fee with Nice as a result

But surely this is why Remy is the better option out of him and Willian? Essentially 2 players in 1.

Marseille say they expect Levy over there today, Tottenham have denied it according to SSN.

If we're losing VdV and bringing in another CM with the intention of going 433 then yes. If we're keeping VdV and staying 4231 for the meanwhile then no. That's my point. If we switch formations to accommodate a new CM then we're losing the goal presence of Rafa (who would go) and Sig (who would become back up) and thus there is more emphasis on the front three to provide goals. Willian doesn't really cut it in that respect. In our current formation though he would provide so much craft and guile. It's exactly what we need imo. Of course we need another central striker, but we also need strong final third creatives like Willian imo.

Bottom line is Remy's a little one dimensional for me as a wide forward (not unlike Bale and Lennon). Ideally I would prefer someone more unpredictable with greater creative flair.
