Blues plan Modric move

Spurs star tops Ancelotti's wish list

Dinamo Zagreb vice-president Zdravko Mamic claims Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has told him of his hopes to land Tottenham's Luka Modric.

Mamic is a close friend of Spurs' Croatian playmaker and helped to engineer his £16.5million switch to White Hart Lane

He claims Modric could soon be on the move again, with Chelsea

monitoring his situation closely.

Ancelotti

recently admitted to Mamic that he is a big admirer of the talented 25-year-old, who has matured into a top Premier League performer since overcoming a slow start to his career in England.

Chelsea feel his creative ability could be just what they need to reinvigorate their squad, with too many players having allowed their standards to slip of late.

Proud

With that in mind, they have placed Modric at the top of their summer shopping list and Ancelotti is prepared to wait until the end of the season before making an approach.

"I was with Ancelotti for lunch. I was very proud when I heard what he said about Modric," Mamic told The Sun.

"Luka is top of his list, his first pick when it comes to new signings.

"I'm not Modric's agent, I am just his friend, but I am very proud.

"I don't want to say anything more because I don't want to upset my friends at Tottenham

Strange one. Yes, they are going to be challenging for honours for now, but surely Terry, Drogba, Lampard can't have too many years left in them. And I don't see how Chelsea can replace such a huge spine, given the financial restrictions on their way.

Whereas we have a young, up and coming squad which again will challenge for honours, but will only improve and has greater strength in depth, imo. And Luka said recently how happy he is here, and how he believes he can achieve all his ambitions with us.

I wonder why Mamic has said this.

because he is a **** and its trying his luck to push up the transfer fees for the youngsters the english clubs are after, playing one off against another.

CARLO ANCELOTTI has made Luka Modric his No 1 target for next season.

Chelsea's boss met Modric's close pal Zdravko Mamic and told him the Spurs playmaker, 25, is top of his shopping list.
That was the sensational claim made last night by Mamic, the powerful Dinamo Zagreb vice-president, who engineered the Croatian star's £17million move to Tottenham.
Mamic said: "I was with Ancelotti for lunch. I was very proud when I heard what he said about Modric.
"Luka is top of his list, his first pick when it comes to new signings. I am not Modric's agent - I am just his friend - but I am very proud.
"I don't want to say anything more because I don't want to upset my friends at Tottenham."
Ancelotti is under pressure as his team have struggled in recent weeks and was reportedly increasingly fed-up with life at Chelsea.
But the move for Modric is a clear indication the Italian has no intention of quitting.
Owner Roman Abramovich has sanctioned a spending spree for next summer and Modric is the man Ancelotti wants to spearhead his Chelsea revolution.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp will be bracing himself for a £30million bid from the champions.
The North Londoners will be desperate to keep Modric, who has been key to the club's success in the last 18 months.
Modric joined Tottenham 2½ years ago after turning down a move to Newcastle. Arsenal and Chelsea also missed out on him at the time.
He has been one of the outstanding performers in the Premier League and the first name on Redknapp's teamsheet.

Mods to Chelsea has been banded around since he joined us. Can't see them putting up the £20+m it would take. He may be interested in the move so if Chelsea do find the cash i think we may struggle to keep hold of him - can't see them getting the money though.

Yeah, just read this.

WTF.

He effectively taps Modders up for the Chavs and then says he doesn't want to say any more in case it 'upsets my friends at THFC':duh:

The only get out is if he has a kid who he knows for a fact will be about 37 times better than Modders (sic.), and will sell to us for a fiver, whilst brokering a deal for Luca for £123 million, or summit:roll:

Dream on Ancelotti, we aren't going to help you keep your job.
However it shows we are getting at the so called top four, when they are circling our players like a crowd of vultures.

I think we'd want more than we got for Berbatov tbh. He's a few years younger than Berbatov was and he signed a new contract in the summer. He wont be sold unless a ridiculous offer of £40m + came in for him.

Didn't he say not long ago that he wasn't interested in a move to Barca when they were apparently interested? He kind of made a joke out of it.

I personally feel Luka is really happy at Spurs currently with us in the Champions League and potentially in the title race.

Well if they offer him twice his current salary, he will most certainly consider it. Who wont?
