WANT!!!
Tottenham Hotspur determined to land Southampton star Luke Shaw in January and will open bidding at £15m
Spurs will continue their summer sprending spree in January and have made Southampton left back Luke Shaw their top target.
Shaw has been on Tottenham's radar for more than a year and was high on their shortlist in the summer.
Due to lengthy negotiations with Real Madrid over Gareth Bale and Andre Villas-Boas' eagerness to have a player ready to play in the first team, Spurs pursued Fabio Coentrao instead.
However that deal is now thought to be unlikely given the player's wage demands and Tottenham have been impressed enough with Shaw's performances this season to make a significant bid in January.
Southampton are reluctant to let their prize asset leave but Spurs are thought to be ready to offer £15m while allowing Shaw to remain at St Mary's for the rest of the season.

Assuming any truth etc etc. Open the bidding at £15m. That's a more than decent offer, imo. Also suggests we'd be willing to go a bit higher too.

He's got the look of a proper signing. Even if we don't strike gold twice we'd have an excellent FB going forward and one who AVB would look to mould into a perfect player for his system.

I have family in Southampton and a couple of them are involved in the academy. Luke Shaw is mad on Chelsea and has let everyone know this is his dream destination. I'm not saying the lad would turn us down but he has his heart set on the Chavs big time.

£15m+ is a hell of a lot for a left-back, especially given Danny Rose is 23 years old.

just sayin'.

Prefer Davies personally. Would be cheaper and was linked recently too.

Not sure we're really in need of a relatively inexperienced left back though... we have two on our books already. A highly experienced Naybet style player yes but not another youngster IMO

I said in another thread that the physio I'm seeing used to work at the Southampton academy. It's apparently well known down there that he's Chelsea mad and will only move from Southampton if it's to go there.

I'm happy to stick by Rose. I think we have a potentially good left back in Fryers and if we buy a left back it should be someone quality right now.

Here's what a few Saints fans have said about our potential bid:

If they slung in another 5 on the 1st january yes I think i would sell him, still very naif defensively. Unsurprising at his age of course but as I see him going sooner rather than later we might as well kill 2 birds with one stone and get a real LB in now when we kind of need one and are in an attractive looking position to potential replacements.

If a club did manage to lure him away, one hell of a sell on clause would have to be part of the deal

A meaningless story manufactured by an insignificant local newspaper, regurgitating the same old rubbish to encourage a few Spurs fans, at least those able to read, to buy the paper. A local reporter working for the East London Guardian won’t know that Southampton buys players for £15m and is not in the business of selling academy products who will be worth a lot more than that if they are not already. Neither will such a junior reporter have any real information about the plans of Tottenham Hotspur FC but it is a reminder of why Cortese has signed his star players on long-term contracts to counter the speculation that will be regularly manufactured by the media in order to write stories about the London/Manchester/Liverpool clubs.

A bit of Saints itk:

Chelsea for £27m in Jan' with loan back until the summer.
It's a done deal from what I've been told. I will, of course, hold my hands up if I'm wrong.

Other teams know how good he is and can be. You tell them that we know how good he is and that in a couple of years time he will be worth 20m plus and therefore thats his price.

If the club asking about him don't like it then bothered, he is our player.

Im sure Cortese sees it like this and I have total faith he will bat away suitors.
